Razor Gap

In a moment of impulse buying that would make any capitalist proud (oooh...orange and blue shiny packaging), I found myself buying the new Gillette Fusion during a trip to Target that was only supposed to be for garbage bags. I'm now the proud new owner of a razor with 5 (yes, as in five) blades. The Razor gap that many have predicted for years is now here, making all Mach3s legacy gear and the old sensor nothing less than obsolete.

Tomorrow morning I'll take it out for its shakedown cruise. Review to follow.

My mach 3 continues to serve me well. They better not get rid of it anytime soon.

Then again - i still have 10 boxes of blades from some giveaway freshman year... so i'm probably good until the 12 blade model comes out.

That Onion Article is hilarious, but on a serious note, I'm a 2-blade Sensor die hard. I've tried all the various alternatives that Gillette has tried to shove down our throats, including the three bladed wonder that they "sneak" in to the already confiscatorily priced Sensor 5-pack. Those wide 3, 4, and now 5 blade razors are unwieldy and an abomination to manly shavers across this land! I require no extra "lubricating strip" or "whisker spreading fins" in order to tame my beard. The perfect simplicity of the classic Sensor blade is all I, or any self-respecting man should ever need.

As a guy who gets razor bumps pretty bad, I swear by the Mach3 Turbo and the bottle of 90% rubbing alcohol under my sink. Anything other than a Mach3 makes my face look like the surface of the moon.

I've tried a ton of other blades, and always went back to the Mach3... if it works, don't replace it says I.

I'm with TheBubba, the Mach3 Turbo is the shiznit. Add in some shaving gel to keep the razorburn away, and you got yourself one helluva shave.

The only thing better than the Mach3 is Oceans Barbershop, in Bahrain...unfortunally I haven't mastered the straight blade and have to revert.

I have actually had every incarnation of the Mach 3, starting with the "basic" model 5 years ago. Then got the Turbo when it came out (slight improvement), then got the Power when it came out (huge improvement). The Power was the best shave I had ever had. Then yesterday, I also bought a Fusion Power, and found that it gave significant improvement over the Mach 3 Power. Definitely worth the money.

Real men shave with a rusty bayonet. Who needs 5 blades when one big one will do the trick? Besides, you don't get those extra manly facial scars from shaving with tiny little "razor" like that.

Real men don't shave at all. How are you supposed to be grizzled without a manly beard?

Think Stonewall used a Mach3? Forget about it!

Make sure you have William Shatner's number on speed dial:

Will Ferrell and the SNL crew premiered the Gillette Mach 14 Platinum razor over five years ago, so it seems that we have actually regressed.

For me, it wasn't an impulse buy - I knew it was coming out on Jan 29th, so as I was laying laminate flooring my fiancee went to Wally World to pick one up for me. After all, this razor is the linchpin of the Proctor & Gamble/Gillette Deal (read that in Cargo). I would hardly refer to this razor as "unwieldy", as a matter of fact, with 5 blades, my face only feels one. It also feels like I'm wiping the shaving cream off my face and yet it gets closer than any razor I've ever used. Less irritation and bumps. I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who's ever shaved!

So, it would be safe to say that you're a fan of Occum's Razor?

But seriously, just finished the shakedown with no knicks or cuts. Phrog pretty much summed it up already, but it was a nice smooth shave, with the razors seeming to glide over my face. It had no trouble at all taking care of 1 day worth of a freedom beard. While the razor head is a tad larger than that of the Mach3, it was in no way unwieldy, and the 5 blades of fury worked together as one. I didn't bother to try and use the extra 6th blade on the back of the razor head that is supposed to be used for trimming sideburns and what not. Just seemed like an easy way to get a nice cut right below the sideburns.

Most men wouldn't claim to be keeping a slim, cylindrical, vibrating object in their bathroom.
