I remember the gouge going around even while I was in API that only the married people were getting orders to Whiting. That's certainly not true. There are many single people here as well, so you didn't just fall through the cracks. But do count yourself blessed. Whiting is a good place to go for primary. Especially when considering your alternative.
I'm probably just over a little halfway through the syllabus with VT-6 and I've only been in the squadron 3 months. So even with Dennis, and the summer weather, I'm on track to finish within 6 months. The latest word from VT-3 is that the new check-ins can expect a 9 week wait before their first flight. They are overloaded on students for some reason with fewer IP's than they need. But apparently there are a number of IP's in the FITU right now who should be checking in soon so that wait could get much shorter soon. Everybody in my class and every class since that has checked in with VT-6 starts right away and I believe it's the same with VT-2. You won't get any choice of which squadron you go to so all of this is just for your information.
I don't know what the wait is here right now to class up for primary but if it's a few weeks, expect a stash job, or to get asked to volunteer for events in the cummunity on a regular basis. Whatever you do, just take the time and get familiar with EP's and T-34 systems. Other than that I would just introduce yourself to the FWOP manual, but don't spend a lot of energy memorizing any of it until you get to your squadron.
