primary at Whiting

I originally thought I was going to Vance for primary, but I've been told I'm gonna go to Whiting instead. HUGE RELIEF!!! Not married, just lucky to get Whiting somehow...or maybe I fell through the cracks. Is there a wait for Whiting in the next few months. I'll be finishing API in sept. How long does it usually take to start there? How long, on average, does it take to get through primary there?

My Husband waited about 3.75 months to start at Whiting...but then we had Hurricane Dennis come through and things got held back a week or two. He was also given a stash job to do whilst he was waiting...Aparently alot of SNA and SMA's also were given stash jobs....IE work in the CO's office or do FOD walks at Corry...he chose the Paper pushing job....
He started class this week and is in VT 2...he has also been told that VT 2 takes around 6 months to finish..
Hope this helps....

yeah dude, you lucked out. I've heard vance sucks. I don't know much about the current wait cuz I went through there a while ago, but it took me about 5 months to get through VT-2. It's probably less time now since they had just put in a new syllabus when I was there and were still working the kinks out.

Dunno how long the pool is at the wing but once you are ground school complete if you go VT-2 you should start right away, if you go VT-3 you'll have to wait 6-8 weeks. I guess there is an onwing shortage or something over there. And I'm not sure what the wait is for 6. Hope that helps.

that's great news...I'm hoping to take a little leave before starting. I've got 45 or so days, and I wanna take some time off while I can. thanks for the replies. if you have any more gouge on Whiting, I'm all ears. :bunny_125

FYI- VT-6 is starting studs up as soon as they get done with ground school. And as for taking leave, don't quote me on this, but it shouldn't be that difficult. Chances are there will be a little wait at the wing to class you up for ground school so you can take it then. I did. But then again, things change and you never know so take it with a grain of salt.

I remember the gouge going around even while I was in API that only the married people were getting orders to Whiting. That's certainly not true. There are many single people here as well, so you didn't just fall through the cracks. But do count yourself blessed. Whiting is a good place to go for primary. Especially when considering your alternative.

I'm probably just over a little halfway through the syllabus with VT-6 and I've only been in the squadron 3 months. So even with Dennis, and the summer weather, I'm on track to finish within 6 months. The latest word from VT-3 is that the new check-ins can expect a 9 week wait before their first flight. They are overloaded on students for some reason with fewer IP's than they need. But apparently there are a number of IP's in the FITU right now who should be checking in soon so that wait could get much shorter soon. Everybody in my class and every class since that has checked in with VT-6 starts right away and I believe it's the same with VT-2. You won't get any choice of which squadron you go to so all of this is just for your information.

I don't know what the wait is here right now to class up for primary but if it's a few weeks, expect a stash job, or to get asked to volunteer for events in the cummunity on a regular basis. Whatever you do, just take the time and get familiar with EP's and T-34 systems. Other than that I would just introduce yourself to the FWOP manual, but don't spend a lot of energy memorizing any of it until you get to your squadron.

Just finished in VT 6 and it took 5 months (I was the first one done). A lot of my class will finish in the 5-6 month time frame, with a single straggler that will probably finish at the 7 month (this is very rare for VT6 though).

Good Luck

Same here . . . but a guy named Ivan had something to do with that. Fam 4 at the end of August, Fam 5 at the end of October . . .

Holy Crap. It took me 9 months to get through primary in VT-3

Holy crap, it took me 16 weeks. But I guess it was just a different time...and no ruskies lurking about in the Gulf.
