It's not that bad but not that good. I give you two little words that IMO, blows away all other US duty stations............San Diego. You want good times, hot chicks, great weather? Of course then you will have to be a pilot and a pilot of a COD or helo........unless of course you're a Marine.

Hawaii.

I've spent pleny of time in Hawaii.........very nice, to small, doesn't compare......IMHO of course. A surfer might think otherwise.

I'd never settle in Hawaii, but living there for 2-3 years or living in San Diego for 2-3 years... easy choice for me.

We always liked The Islander on the beach for Tuesday nights. .25/50 cent draws and shuffleboard too boot. Plus a live band upstairs and decent music down. Definitely worth checking out.

For socializing, ie, "Places to go out..." I'd say San Dog is better than HI. There's lots to do in HI, but you're more of an outsider there than in San Diego. As for settling, right now I'd go for HI.

Yeah, I can see that. I figure though that they're both crazy liberal states, but Hawaii is "exotic". San Diego is Mexico. I love San Diego, but Hawaii has a much better neatness factor. Why not live there for a few years if you can :)

No argument there. BTW, Fly, I see by your avatar that you've been completely indoctrinated. Well done.

Many fond memories of AUTEC. What was that bar called? Seven fathoms (fagots) club? What a life. Load a few torps, drink a few beers, comandeer a golf cart, go fishing off the pier, real surf & turf night. Good times.

I think it was the "1000 Fathoms" club. Remember the Fiddler crabs at night? Good food at the galley too. Best Goombay Smashes I've ever had at that Beach House.

The IP teaching my OceanO class today just got back from AUTEC and mentioned Goombay Smashes. I'm looking forward to heading down there at some point in the next 3 years.

The club at PMRF in Kaua'i is pretty good, as well. Very reasonable, especially for being on a tourist island. Can't remember the name of it, though.

Well, if you want to get technical, it's Kaua'i. You people and your "facts."
