Options for Aviators to serve in the field

While it's not as high speed as wearing Oakleys and UDTs, there are other options. As HJ mentioned, if you're co-located w/ Marines, I'm sure you could play w/ them and learn Marine Kwan Do. In the 10 1/2 years I've been in the Navy, this is the first time I've NOT been stationed with Marines, so there are opportunities out there.

Is there the opportunity as a Navy pilot to learn any hand to hand combat?

Absolutely. At 0100 on a cold, rainy night, when maintenance is getting ready to swap out the alert bird, and you are deciding who is going to go pre-flight it.

It's right up my alley because I have a strong interest in the personal weapons knowledge and hand to hand skills.
