Medical and JAG selectees do not attend OCS. They attend OIS at Newport RI. These people are not recruited to be Naval Officers, per sey, they are recruited for their professional skills. These guys spend many more years in school than OCS candidates. Most get direct commissions as LT's before they attend OIS. Depending on their experience I have seen some get direct commissions as CDRs and I remember one CAPT a few years ago. Some of them also get big bonuses.
OCS is completely different. No OCS selectee gets a bonus. All OCS candidates are enlisted personnel until they graduate and then commission as ENS's. OCS is designed to mold you and teach you the leadership skills the Navy wants from it's officer corps. You guys are right there is alot of harrassment, especially during the first five weeks, and the DI's are tyring to get you to DOR. That is because we do not want a bunch of wimps who can't handle the stress leading our Navy into the future. Remember you guys are the one who are going to be making the policy decisions in a few years
