I searched a bit on the forum and found maybe one instance of this coming up so I decided to start this thread to see what else is out there.

The question is what can an NFO do outside of the Navy?

Nothing, it's a wasteland. There is simply no need for a college educated person with extensive experience in advanced technology and leadership with a proven track record of accomplishment in complex tasks in a dynamic environment on the outside....

Work through it there pew pew ;)

Don't know how you couldn't find anything. This comes up every month or so. Maybe there isn't a thread but hundreds of posts. Think about what pugs said. Give me a break. You think because there are no NFOs in the civ world there are no jobs? Where or where do all the submariners, SWOs and Seals get jobs? Maybe they are in the unemployment line with all the former Navy pilots that don't want to be airline pilots.

Here is an idea. If you can't find posts where people pontificate on the subject. Just take a look at some of the NFO member's profiles. Some of us are out of the Navy and doing just fine, thank you?

Among the ones that I have seen:

Teacher
Airline Pilot
Plumbing Salesman
Intelligence Officer
Defense Contractor
Satellite Support Engineer
Research Analyst
Realtor
Civil Servant
Manager for Building Contractor
Professor
Reserve Bum
Lawyer
Business Executive
Banker

And I am sure I am forgetting a few.

EDIT: Flash beat me to it. Nevermind.

I don't think the OP meant this question to be in an insulting manner. While it is obvious you guys are tired of hearing this question, I think he was more curious as to what types of jobs NFO's are best suited/trained.

What are some typical routes that you guys and others have taken?

(If this just pissed you off more, then...my bad :icon_tong)

Lookit’ as an NFO you’ve been in the Navy as a leader of men, and done a tough job to boot. ‘nough said… You apply for a job at a company with credentials like that and a degree… Guess what! Why, you’ll be sleeping under a bridge with Lovebug201.:)

Hmmm, your bio says you want to be a space cowboy... More "mission specialist's" than pilots on those things don't you think? But, if you go 'FO, there is a HUGE market in the contracting side of the house. Far Far down the road for you young man.

A lot of the Mission Specialists are non-tactical jet pilots, tactical jets guys/gals are the only who pilot the shuttle as far as I know. Apparently they like helo pilots to control the shuttle arm, similar skills.

Great answers. I knew there were things that an NFO could do I just was wondering what some of the specifics were. Sounds like a pretty neat deal.

This definitely was not meant to be an insulting question.
