new NROTC SNA and SNFO standards

I got an email from the aviation LT in our NROTC unit. This is the email copied and pasted.

Proud Warriors,
Listed below are the minimums for selection into aviation. In the past, it was put out that a 3.2 CGPA was required, but as you can see not the case.
For those worried about the age waiver, you STA-21 folks, not a big deal. It's a simple request that doesn't take that long to get approved and it's almost at a 100% approval rate. I was 29 when I received my commission and over 30 when I started flight school as an SNA. For those who are over 29 when you are commissioned, then NFO has an age waiver up to, but not including 32.

If you have questions regarding this email or the aviation community, please stop by my office. War Eagle!

10. If a member desires 1370 (NFO) or 1390 (Pilot), an ASTB must be taken and qualifying scores must be entered at the time of service selection.

NEW ASTB MINIMUMS:
1370 NFO - AQR 4/FOFAR 5
1390 Pilot - AQR 4/PFAR 5

(a) New GPA Requirement: A cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required for all Pilot and NFO selects.

(b) A flight physical must be completed (or in progress) at the time of service selection. However, the flight physical must be approved by NOMI prior to the member being commissioned as a 1370 or 1390.

(c) Applicants for Pilot (1390) must be at least 19 years old and not have passed their 27th birthday on commissioning. Applicants with prior enlisted service may be granted waivers on a month-for-month basis up to 24 months for active duty served prior to their 27th birthday, to a maximum age of 29.

(d) Applicants for NFO (1370) must be at least 19 years old and have passed their 27th birthday on commissioning. Applicants with prior enlisted service may be granted waivers on a month-for-month basis up to 48 months for active duty served prior their 27th birthday, to a maximum age of 31.

(e) For applicants older that 27 at commissioning, formal waiver requests should be submitted to PERS-435A via NSTC OD4

I hope this helps.

Well considering 2.5 is the minimum to get commissioned in NROTC, I don't see why they felt that necessary to include. If your GPA is below that, not getting the pilot slot if you're a scholarship midshipman should not be the first thing on your mind.

Ha ha, good observation!

Bottom line: don't suck at college=better chances at getting NA/NFO.

This...is...Caketown!
Hang on, is this just NROTC, or does it include everyone else? How 'bout the Marines?

the marines are part of NROTC. there are marine option and navy option midshipmen. i am not sure if the marine option mid's are selected any differently than navy option. maybe someone else could help out with this answer.

Eh, I was thinking more along the lines of OCC. I'm sure I'll hear about it one way or another when my app goes back through.

This may sound like a dumb question but does anyone know where I can find an example of a "formal age waiver". Is it just a letter that I would write or is it a form of some kind? Please be as specific as you can because I would like to present the best document that I can. Also, criticism/advice is always welcome. Thanks you guys, airwarriors has been a great and reliable source of info.

navywareagle,
Can you ask the LT for the source of the new regulation. I'm curious if it's an NROTC thing or a Navy-Wide thing. From my trained eye, it appears to be a NETC instruction vice a NOMI or NAMI instruction. Thanks.

I think navywareagle has better things to do now, like learn how to hover. Smiles, of course.
