Navy vs Air Force

Didn't mean to sound conceded. I was just trying to say that I think I have what it takes because I know how close the decision is in choosing pilots.
 
If you are to in love with a land-locked state to leave it for college, the Navy might not be for you anyway. :confused:

If you are going to plant roots and limit your career opportunities because of your school choice, you should at least pick someplace good.

If you don't want to go to far from home, The University of Memphis has Navy ROTC. Missouri and OU have NROTC programs as well.

Actually, I want to be on a ship so bad. I know that the Navy is for me. I do not want to take off and land on land, I want to be on a carrier and I want to be best of the best when it comes to aviation. I know the navy offers both of those.

Oh and I would go to anywhere in Florida. Memphis isn't my favorite choice. Too close to home

I asked this same question on the Air Force forums and the most legit answer I got as to why I should go into the Air Force over Navy was so I wouldn't be called a "seaman". That was after 75 replies and it only made me want to join the Navy more if that's the best reason they could come up with.
 
Good choice. I got similar answers when people were trying to sway me from the navy to the chair force. If I wanted to work for a corporation I would, but I don't. Plus navy is in the blood for my family.
 
My college only had AROTC and AFROTC, so I went BDCP and am now in flight school for the Navy. Don't be gay. Forget the Air Farce.
 
I think you pretty much answered your own question. Here is my .02 cents, I just graduated and commissioned out of the U of Utah NROTC and selected for pilot. I had a lot of friends that were AFROTC and many of them trying to get a pilot slot. However, only a couple actually got it. I dont know how the AF selects their pilots but these were guys with much better GPA them myself and very well rounded guys who really deserved it. Its very competitive in the AF as far as I know. But, everyone in my class out of NROTC that were trying to get pilot got it. Actually everyone before this who were trying for pilot all got it as well. I dont know how it is at other Units though. Also, I spent last year on the Kitty Hawk with a Prowler Squadron and got to go up on a couple flights. There is nothing better in this world then being able to experience a cat shot! The Trap is not bad either... Anyway, in my opinion you will probably do some cool flying in the AF...but at the end off the day you will still be in the AF. Ill leave you with this, I knew a old Delta Captain, who was a retired Naval Aviator with some 1000+ traps(something like that), who said that he was flying with his co-pilot, who was an AF retired C-17 pilot that told him a story about his scariest landing was in really heavy fog with almost 0 vis. The Naval Aviator looked at him and didnt even say a word.

You don't want to be "stationed in the middle of nowhere" but you are in and want to stay in Arkansas?? To alot of us..that pretty much IS the middle of nowhere...lol J/k :) But seriously, you really have to pick something that will fit your own personality. From working with both Navy and Air Force aviators, I have to say that the Navy officers understand warfighting and officership a little better than the Air Force bubbas. Both services are great, but the Navy is much more forward deployed and concentrated on being an officer first, aviatior second. It seems that the Air Force looks more for pilots/Navs. You are still very young and have the opportunity to switch if you decide one or the other is not right for you (prior to contracting of course). Keep asking the question to yourself and researching the lifestyles in both branches and you'll figure it out. I wouldn't pick one branch over the other (which you may be spending a considerable portion of your life living) only because a school doesn't offer the program. Hope this helps, and good luck.
