Those numbers are close...however...On the horizon, helos will comprise about 60%, and jets, nearer to 30%...at least according to the detailers.

Find these numbers a little hard to believe. 10% for the non-tacair/helo communities. How would that work out. You are not going to see a reduction in the amount of assets in these communities, the missions are too important and manning required to pull it off is already down to about as low as it can go in most cases. You will not see an appreciable increase in the size/amount of tacair squadrons...the manning is already pretty solid and adding squadrons is not something that we are doing right now or projected to do any time soon I would think. (Money is being spent elsewhere, etc.) Anyway, the increase that you are talking about in helo numbers could I suppose be feasible, but the squadrons/community are RESTRUCTURING (redesignating) and redifining the missions, not necessarily changing a lot in composition or in number of squadrons to the best of my knowledge. In short, I am not convinced that the numbers you say the detailers are quoting are all that realistic, and until in writing would have to fall under the catagory of questionable gouge at best.

To answer your actual question, I have no idea. The numbers were admittedly estimates that I heard at a briefing given by the detailing shops in Millington. I make no claims as to the "goodness" of the gouge.

I have heard the 60% number regarding helos bantered about frequently however, so it is, at the least, popular gouge. Also, hinge promotion rates in those communities tend to support an increasing size and increasing opportunity. Again though, other factors could be at play.

Just passing along what I heard from a more reputable source than most.

The missions in the USMC are just better for a helo guy. You directly support the grunts, and can see that you're supporting them. Just my $.02.

Exactly. I never get to support the grunts except for CAS, Convoy escort, Armed Recce, interdictions, and the like. Most of the time I'm just wearing my blues from one dining out to another.........

Being a Marine helo pilot is definitely sexier than being a Navy helo pilot. For all Marine officer candidates and TBS studs out there, congrats, for you've already made the first and most important choice.
