I was just wondering if anyone new what commissioning program produces more fighter pilots?

And is there a particular one that looks better than the other?

Just curious

It doesn't matter if you're ROTC, Academy, or OCS. That has nothing to do with what platform you fly.

Is this a serious question? If so, let me answer.....commissioning programs have absolutely nothing to do with becoming a fighter pilot, at least not in the navy.

Your chances of becoming a fighter pilot depend on your grades in flight school and the needs of the Marine Corps./Navy etc. A commissioning program is just your path to get to flight school, the rest is up to you and the needs of the particular service.

Hey btw, how many slots are available per aircraft? I know there is no certain answer, sometimes there are 0 jet slots, but whats the max and min per pipeline that many of you have witnessed? Also how many students per class. Just trying to grasp the whole concept here.

If I were you, I would worry about all that if you actually make it there. However, a good way to look at it is in the Navy, 45% fly helo, 25% fly jets, 20% fly P-3's, and the rest is E-6/E-2/C-2. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, I simply remember reading those numbers a few years back, somewhere. That, or they told me.

Like bunk said, get there first. If you take care of your end in flight school, you stand a good chance of getting to fly what you want. Every week is different. In my selection class out of primary, everybody got their first choice, including a couple of jets and an E-6. I think that the P-3 number has dwindled significantly over the last couple of years, but I'm not sure. Besides, right now you may think that you know what you want to fly, but until you're making the decision, you never know. I wanted jets, but switched to helos half-way through primary. A buddy of mine wanted helos until he flew forms in primary and then decided to select jets. In any case, being a Navy pilot is the best job in the world, regardless of what you fly.

You don't think I toss and turn every night wondering whether I will get selected or not for the Marine Corps? I can say that I worked extremly hard with my package so it is now up to the board. I would sure as hell like to see myself someday at API. Regardless of that I would not be too picky on what I would like to fly. As I stated before, just trying to grasp the whole concept here. Thanks gents.

Those numbers are close...however...On the horizon, helos will comprise about 60%, and jets, nearer to 30%...at least according to the detailers.

I am a Marine air Candidate. Any Marine pilots that can shed some light here?
What do you want to know? First, the numbers they quoted are for the Navy. In the USMC, it's closer to 70% helos... I won't lie - I wanted jets, but if I had it to do over again, I would be a helo guy from API onward. The missions in the USMC are just better for a helo guy. You directly support the grunts, and can see that you're supporting them. Just my $.02.

Yeah during my Marine Flight orientation I had the chance to fly with some Marine -46 drivers. They both had some crazy stories from their experiences in Iraq. The roll of the chopper is essential for CAS missions. Gotta love the damn MARINES! It would be an honor to fly anything the Marines have to offer. Anyways I knew that the number of slots would vary between the USMC and NAVY. Thanks again
