military discounts at ski resorts - 2008

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good military discounts being offered by ski slopes out west? I know that Squaw gives active duty military free lift tickets, but I've skied there several times already and want to try a new mountain. I was thinking Utah, Montana, or maybe Idaho, but am open to suggestions if anyone's got a favorite or knows of a place thats got a good deal.

Wow, that sucks. I've been to other mountains in the NE like Killington that usually give a 15-20% discount (and can't tell that the difference between a dependent and active ID).

Check out http://www.rockymountainblue.com/. The Liberty Pass is a good deal for Keystone/A-Basin if you're able to get enough days on snow to make it worthwhile. Keystone, Breck, Vail and Beaver Creek all have discounts, though I'm not sure how much they are these days. It looks like the discount will save you $30+ a day at Keystone, it is probably comparable at the others.

If you do Squaw again and are looking for variety, you can get cheap tickets for Heavenly, and Northstar is free on Sundays. Mammoth and Kirkwood also both have decent .mil discounts.

Almost every Utah resort has awesome season pass deals for military, so it stands to reason that single days have appreciable discounts as well. I remember Alta having a good rate a couple of years ago.

In Montana, Grand Targhee gives out a full day ticket for half day price and usually has good early season snow. As far as Wyoming, Jackson Hole is pretty military friendly as well.

Of course, all these deals fluctuate from year to year...hopefully the economic woes haven't forced any cutbacks on the deals.

I know you said out west, but if you can make it to Europe, Edelweiss in Garmisch (http://www.edelweisslodgeandresort.com/) has really reasonably priced ski packages. Plus, Zugspitze is pretty cool..

Pray for snow!

Near Squaw is a small place called Homewood. They used to do free military tickets, but you'll need to check.
Also, call the Beale AFB Outdoor Adventure Center (ask Beale operator, 530 634 3000, for the number): they should have good info.

Last time I skied Jackson Hole they offered 50% off w/mil ID - next best deal to Squaw that I've encountered.

ugh this post made me so sad! I used to be a ski instructor and marketing person for Aspen Ski Co and another smaller resort in Colorado..skiing every day, and now we're stationed in TX...booo!

I know you're looking more West, but I would agree that the Liberty pass is a good one. It's specifically for military, and can be bought at most REIs in the area, with proof of ID. (But that's good for a whole season, unlimited skiing at Keystone and A-Basin. Keystone is also great because of the night skiing.) It just depends how many days you are going for. (Also, I don't know why, but it's sometimes (and unofficially,) referred to as the "Freedom pass" and can be bought from local bases at least in the CO area.)

Also I have friends who still work in the office, and while they don't know their final price, all did say that they offer a hefty discount for military at the window.

After skiing all over the country, (CO, AK, CA, and the lame East Coast,) I would say stick to Colorado. The Aspen mountains are def. my favorite...and one lift ticket buys you access to 4 mountains, you can move between them all day if you want: Snowmass, Highlands, Aspen Mt, and Buttermilk. (But then again, I am biased....that was where i was employed.) ;)

Have fun, totally jealous!

I think every resort owned by Vail resorts offer a decent military discount. I think last year it was somewhere around 15%. They have resorts in multiple states out west.

Thanks all for the replies. I just sent an email to Jackson Hole to see if their 50% offer still stands. Looks like both Alta and Snowbird don't have military discounts on daily tickets, only season passes. A resort outside of Jackson Hole called Grand Targhee that does offer the half day price for a full day of skiiing. Big Sky in Montana has $39 lift tickets to Active Duty/Retired and there's a discount for spouses/direct family. Tamarack in Idaho also seems to have a decent military rate. That's all I've been able to find so far. It sure does seem odd to be planning a ski trip while I'm in Bahrain enjoying 100+ heat.

So, I know this is about skiing out west, but for those of use who can't make it to Colorado easily (ie stuck on the east coast), Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia offers a really good military discount. If I remember right, when I went the lift tickets for my fiance and I were free and our rentals and lodging were discounted as well. It's not Colorado skiing, but we had a blast.

Angel Fire in NM gives you $200 bucks off a season pass or $10 off a day pass.

Snowshoe, WV also does the like 4 cases of coke or sprite on a receipt for a free lift ticket from Kroger most years. We built a fort of Coke cases in our dorm room at VT my senior year and skied (is that the past tense of ski?) for free all winter, IIRC.
