Marine Corps Marathon

Any other forum members decide to athletically punish themselves this past weekend and run the Marine Corps Marathon?

Mrs. Pags and I have been in training for the past couple of months and were stoked to finally do the 26.2. It was an awesome day to run a marathon (if there's such a thing).

Also, thanks to any forum members who volunteered or cheered the runners during the race. Y'all were an awesome help.

Congrats on finishing ... thats hardcore. I had to help out up there in 05 when I was in TBS, it was pretty inspirational to see people pushing their way up that last little hill to the finish. Now, the guys who run the last mile faster than most people can run their FIRST mile - I just shake my head and say WTF. Damn machines.

I did it back in '04 having run like 10 miles 2 times before it. Big mistake. Finishing is a damn good feeling though! Congrats.

Yeah, did that for my first marathon a few years back. This time around I trained a lot better and I could feel the difference. I was pretty damned happy to stop moving at the end.

Congrats to the both of you! What was your time? It amazed me when I ran my marathon how fast I went from "i'm sore but its not too bad, i'm finishing this sucka" to right after I finished when I said " OH MY GOD I CAN'T MOVE MY LEGS... MY LEG ARE GOING TO FALL OFF!!!"

I was in the same ball park. I don't remember the number. I was mostly just happy to be alive.

I did MCM in 2004 with a college buddy and had a blast. I think being stuffed in a truck for the 12 hour drive home on Monday hurt worse than the marathon itself.

I did First Light in Mobile in 2006 and it didn't come close. I still enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as running through DC. Next stop: Whidbey 2008.

I really want to do the MCM...I've also heard the Rock and Roll Marathon is pretty cool in SD...My next one in going to be Istanbul eventually. Only Marathon that is run on 2 continents. Pretty cool. My time (only have done one) was 3:58. I really want to get below 3:15 and qualify for Boston but I don't know when I'll have the time to train for it.

Thanks all. I figured a bunch of folks on here had run it at some point. Was a much more enjoyable marathon then my first, better organized, better support, more people, and a great crowd. It was great to run through DC, see all the sights, and have everyone out cheering for you.

I ran it in 1996, and it was great. I was really surprised and motivated by the huge number of people who are there to cheer everyone on. That season I ran the EOD 1/2 marathon (is it still around?) and Army 10 miler to get ready for it. The whole season was a great time, I would really like to do it again.
