Marine Corps Marathon

I was at the water point just in front of the Capitol building around mile 12, furiously filling up dixie cups with water (you people were thirsty), so I didn't get to watch the runners too much, but I did see a guy within about 10 minutes of the leaders in a cow costume complete with udder, and later on a hard charger in boots & utes with a flak.

Did see a lot of people on their cell phones...kinda weird, but a good way to coordinate with family and friends who are watching you.

As far as costumes, San Fran's Bay to Breakers comes to mind. I also couldn't imagine wearing something hot and heavy during a marathon...but a shorter distance, like a 5k, is wide open for buffoonery and ass-hattery of all kinds.

on more of a moto note - i did see one guy running with the american flag, saw him finish as well, and a Major running in full boots and utes. Props to them - at Boston 2006 I ran the last 3 miles with the Marine Corps colors and it nearly did me in, but it gets the crowd roaring :)

Some runners wearing the wigs and other chicanery @ the start look like sh!it by mile 20 or so. Wigs are gone, facepaint is runny, smiles are in the crapper. Some folks try to wear costumes while running. @ the Army ten-miler there was a chick dressed like an orange and the dude running next to her was a banana. The orange was limping at mile 7.

In DC, I got passed by two firemen running as a promotion for Globe firefighting gear. One was wearing an overcoat and pants, the other pants and an air pack. Yes, I said they both passed me and finished a good 30 minutes ahead of me. I talked to them at the finish line and they told me it was their third or fourth time doing it.

Did anyone else see the guy that was juggling while he ran? Thats absolutely nuts!

i ran with that guy at the philly marathon for a few miles, if its the same one. apparently he's in the guinness book of world records for it, true or not i have no clue. he did however beat me in that marathon, i think he ran a 3:05. pretty sad the day you have to say you got beat in a race by a dude juggling balls.
