Major Samuel "Skidkid" Leigh

$3900!! I will keep the donations open a few more hours to see if we can reach $4000. Regardless, I am amazed at everyone's generosity towards making a tribute to Skidkid's scholarship at his high school.

It will take me a bit to go through everyone's donations and mark your user account here on AW's as a contributor, so give me a few days to make that happen. If for some reason I miss you, PM me to help fix it!

Make that $4500 thanks to your donation and others this evening!

No matter what badge I put upon my left breast...the one that means the most to me are the wings of gold. I see the brotherhood of Naval Aviators the best I was ever a part of and sometimes wish that I could be apart of again. So I put in as much as I could muster to the fund, even though it wasnt much. I overdraft monthly and I believe this is a good reason to overdraft and hope it serves a good cause. Until that day skidkid...10-42

All, thank you for the donations to be submitted to Major "Skidkid" Leigh's Memorial Scholarship Fund at his high school. We had 68 donations from a wide spectrum of members here at Air Warriors. In fact, we had a couple individuals donate twice! No matter what amount you donated, it is sincerely appreciated, and it is all going to a good cause to help remember one of our finest. Your response, emails, and PMs supporting this is what makes it all worthwhile to keep running this site, and is what sets us apart.

I am closing off the Air Warrior's donation to the memorial fund. YOU CAN STILL DONATE DIRECTLY though, so if you are interested, shoot me an email or PM and I can give you the details. Our final tally is $4750.

Once again, thank you very much.

John

Each according to his or her gifts...your contribution means just as much or even more than someone with more income.

$5000 goal reached

When Web-san announced the contributions had reached $4750, rather than send that amount, the Mods decided to pass the hat yet one more time among ourselves. Rugger and Squeeze pitched in to close the gap and a contribution from Zippy showed up so that only $100 was needed to reach a nice round $5000. My Kailua bruddah, A4s, and I split that on top of our earlier contributions so that AW can make a hefty and worthy $5000 contribution to Skidkid's memorial scholarship sponsored by his high school. If you are coming to the sad news for first time, contributions can still be accepted via the PayPal feature on the AW Home Page (please notate purpose). I plan to make it an annual contirbution to keep his memory alive thers outside AW. Who knows, maybe one of the recepients will decide to go Marine Air and we'll see them on AW!

$5000

Did anyone on AW make it out to the memorial today at the Camp Pendelton Base Chapel at 1000 today?

Also, the more look at his picture, for some reason SkidKid looks awefully familiar, does any know if he was at the Red Bull Air Race in 2007 on the Coronado side (near ferry landing) wearing shorts, Birkenstocks, and black golf shirt on the Sunday of the race weekend? If in fact it was him, I remember him being a very personable, extremely friendly, low key kinda guy... which was amazing given his accomplishments. RIP, Sir.

Friend of mine here at work is a Cobra pilot and attended the service in Maine on Veteran's Day. Said it was very moving and well done.

R.I.P. Finkle.

It was good to see so many family and friends of Finkle, share memories and toast a few in his honor.

Thank you from the Leigh Family

All, I wanted to take a moment to pass on the thanks I recieved from Mr. David Leigh. We raised $5000 that we donated to their scholarship in Skid's name. For those you that donated, I express my thanks, and sincere appreciation for making this more than just another website. You motivate me to keep this website running showing how much you care for one of our own.

I am attaching three pictures, my letter to the scholarship, the check, and the thank you from Mr. Leigh.

And Skid, as always, you won't be forgotten brother.

John
