A little Wizard love here... And FWIW, LCDR Kelly Richards is a "he", not a "she"... And I think I was in that jet...

Shouldn't the caption read VAQ-133? And how many jets does LCDR Richards have his name on anyway?

I saw an older post in a different thread about maintainers getting backseat rides. Does that happen often/ever?

Heh. This old maintainer got a FRONT seat flight in a T-28 once. Of course it helped that the pilot (from the VT IUT unit)was a close friend and neighbor and the VT OpsO was a neighbor on the other side. Also that I had a couple hundred T-34B hours and 1K+ fixed wing hours. Different times, I don't see that happening today.

Good old MOVLAS station 3. Has anyone ever actually landed with this thing? I can't imagine it is too pilot friendly being on the complete other side of the LA.

You'd be surprised. The T-6 guys can chime in on what goes on now, but with the T-34, every so often one of the QARs would have to fly somewhere to go fix something. Sometimes the maintenance pilots would take them, sometimes an IP on a rescue mission. When I was a stud, Super Ken (for those that know him at Whiting) flew with an IP all the way out to Colorado to get our engine healthy again (it was just a bad P3 air filter, but we didn't know that).
