Who gets 4 year commitments? I thought it was a minimum of 5 for OCS/ROTC types.
8 Year total commitment:
SWO: 4 Active/4 IRR
NUKE: 5 Active/3 IRR
NFO: 6 active (after winging)/? IRR
Pilot: 8 Active (after winging)/0 IRR

If you DOR'd or Attrited and then redesignated then you'd prob have to sign another type of commitment (i.e. sign on for another 4 for Suppo or something) I think.
Negative, both the DOR's and Attrites do not have to sign new commitments with redesignations, just finish off your 4/5 or whatever it was initially. It might be a possibility but I have not seen it happen or implemented.
I knew a guy that DOR'd with less than a year left on his contract, he picked up for Intel and had to sign on for 5 to get the school....

Promotions to LT (if like promotions to Capt in the Marine Corps) are the first ones that are tied to your lineal number, rather than 2 years after your last promotion. I have known guys that pinned on Capt, then the next day went on terminal leave. I have also known guys that went on terminal leave then got promoted. It depends is about all any of us can say.thanks for all the replies!
but before we go on too far a tangenet...the question remains. Does an officer who gets out after 4 yrs (or goes IRR or whatever) promote to LT the last day of his obligatory service (i.e. his 4-yr mark)?
