My roommate is from NH where one of those polls is located, I forget which, but he said that they hire the lowest wage callers who just make up what ever they want.

American Ace, become an optimist. Of course the thought of that moron running the white house scares me at least as much as every other level headed person that follows our economy and world events, but I am confident G.W.B. will be a two termer.

Vettemuscle, If the U.S. was a house then I live in the septic tank of that house. I live in the free loader, drug using, uneducated capital of the world. These are the very people that Zogby hires to poll peole and they do exactly as you say, FUDGE the numbers while reading their latest edition of High Times. Most of them want Kerry to win the Whitehouse so I think numbers are being fudged for Kerry. DON'T put too much weight into polls they mean nothing. It will be a close race, but with the economy in full swing BOOM mode (fiscal policy takes 24-36 months too implement so the recession was not Bush's fault. Anybody who has taken a basic MacroEconomics course and actually paid attention knows this).

Hate to burst y'alls bubble but there are a lot of staff officers (O-4, O-5 level) here on the bubble about who they are going to vote for - and these are guys who have done their time in the trenches, gotten their advanced degrees, and do International Relations full time. Likewise, former CENTCOM commander, Marine General Anthony Zinni has been very critical. And you can say this about Kerry, he wants to increase the number of troops on active duty - good news to a lot of reservists who have been involuntarily called up for a year +, and those on active duty who have been extended time and time again.

Take some time off, analyze the issues fully, and then decide who you are going to vote for.

Where's Richard Pryor when you need him? I want my "none of the above" option.

No one said the current situation is peachy... but honestly... does Flip-Flop-Kerry's opinion that we need more troops mean he will do anything about it?

You like to roll in these little hand grenades to get things going, don't you? Interesting to hear you say that, most of the guys who talk about politics around here (O-2, O-3, and O-4) speak in favor of Bush but if you can believe it, not many guys talk about politics. And there are definitely a few who speak in favor of Kerry, makes for some interesting discussions.

Everyone I know who is voting for Kerry is supporting him just because they don't like Bush. If you ask them anything like, 'what do you think of his financial policy,' they stfu. I don't think many people really do know what Kerry wants to do, hell, I don't think he even does. Every few weeks when I check his site he has dramatically changed his stance on every issue. Or maybe they liked his stance on something they read a few months ago, but it's more likely than not that he has done a complete 180, turned back 90 degrees, then made a 45 degree left turn on that issue since then.

For his latest awe-inspiring revellation:
http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/iraq/

He wants to get NATO into Iraq. Brilliant idea, but you know what, WE ALREADY TRIED THAT, and the only countries that didn't support us were Germany and France, and France isn't even 'in' NATO.

I especially like this quote:

"III. Launch a Massive Effort to Build an Iraqi Security Force

We need a massive training effort to build an Iraqi security force that can actually provide security for the Iraqi people. We must accept that the effort to date has failed and must be rethought and reformed. Training must be done in the field, on the job as well as in the classroom. This key task should be part of the NATO mission, and units should be put on the street with backup from international security forces. The creation of viable Iraqi security forces – military and police – is crucial to a successful exit for us and other international forces."

WHOA, great idea, what do you think we have been doing? I may be wrong about this, but aren't Iraqi security forces second (in size) only to the US? And after reading these type pf articles (scroll down to 'Cash and Clans'): http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A11809-2003Nov24?language=printer , and this one http://www.govexec.com/dailyfed/1003/102703nj1.htm, I'm conviced that if we need anything, it's a bigger Iraqi security force.

Oh this fountain of knowledge that has blessed our country, thank you for saving us all (extreme sarcasm).

Maybe we should elect this guy, he should've gotten the Democratic nomination: http://maddox.xmission.com/penny_drop.html

haha... I think Kerry is a wanna-be skeletor.

Has anyone else seen the Re-animator, doesn't he remind you of that perverted doctor (if you've seen it, you know which one I'm talking about).

ever seen this site ??

And on another note, isn't there a rule in wardrooms that you aren't supposed to talk "shop, religion, or politics" ? I'm interested to know when people out in the fleet abide by that.

46Driver, since you sound like you are going to vote for Kerry, what issues of his are you in favor of.

By the way Kerry said he wants to increase the size of the ARMY by like 10,000 or some idiotic number like that. What on gods green earth are 10,000 more troops going to for the U.S. army any way? Also how does Kerry plan on acquiring more troops, oh I get it re institute the draft??? He sure is hell isn't going to give any pay increases, because he has to pay for his economy killing EXTREMELY expensive universal healthcare system (U.S.'s first step toward socialism). Hell if Kerry got in by the time he left office it wouldn't suprise me if 2 or 3 current U.S. CVN's were scrap metal. Look up his voting record. Like Duke Cunningham said do you really want someone who is gonna vote like Jane fonda (for military spending, and in case you don't know who the hell that is, he is the first Ace of the Vietnam War and retired Naval Aviator and current congressman), do you really want someone who is gonna vote (for military spending) like Jane Fonda? What the Army needs is modernization, they need to become a force that can be ready to respond quick like the Marines.

46Driver do you remember how great Jimmy Carter was with our economy? History will repeat if Kerry gets elected. Don't get me wrong I don't love everything Bush does. But I like him A LOT more than John Kerry. The guy just takes stances to sound good and oppose Bush. Bush does what he believes in (sometimes I dont agree with him, but respect his decisions). In my book that makes Bush a MUCH stronger leader, and my 2 biggest issues 1. National defense & security, and 2. The Economy. Who is the better candidate for those two issues, BUSH!

As for the amount of officers that are going to vote for Kerry, sure there are officers who will no doubt vote for Kerry. Those officers are a small minority (about 20% of all officers). Maybe you just happened to meet a high concentration of officers who like Kerry.

I was actually alive when Carter was President so yes, I do remember it. All I am asking is to do some reading, read widely, formulate an opinion. Still don't know who I am going to vote for....
