Great weapon! Got one myself. It uses a very good round with great ballistics, fairly cheap and easy to find. But, the Garand too heavy given what is available with today's technology, and you have to have a supply of stripper clips to effectively reload. Can't just pick those up anywhere. Still, on the short list.

I'm voting for Garand.

Heavy firepower with a decent rate if needed.
Good sights for long range use
Great round with excellent ballistics and plenty of power for most anything in North America.

If all else fails, can be used as a club.

Belgian-Made Browning Pre-64 in a 270. I've killed everything from coyotes to Mule Deer with it and a 270 is plenty big enough for anything in North America.

Can't beat a mauser action.

Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in .270. American classic. I've killed Grizzly, elk, deer, Stone sheep, Dall sheep, Aoudad, and antelope with it. Never had a problem.

Inexpensive, lasts forever and will always go bang when you pull the trigger.
