LimeWire is pretty good about it, there is some crap on there but people are good at reporting it as junk so you know what to stay away from. You can always tell the good stuff.

I assure you, I know what Limewire is.
Hey Zab, there's this AMAZING new thing available for use on computers. It's called Windows and it sure is a big improvement over DOS. Say goodbye to command line entries forever!

Ahhhh, well, I DID look like a bit of a mo-ron regarding using the Pandora site, so I'll concede that it was my own fault. If it weren't for Limewire, I'd be FVCKED as far as getting any music down here.

Not that I download anything copywrighted or anything...

I think I posted this a few months ago... however good to post it again, it's a cool site.
Nobody paid attention because you post so damn much! You've been on the site less than half the time as me and you have more than double my posts. This equates to a post factor of 4. Face it. You're a post whore...and nobody listens to a post whore. :D

Just a word of warning here... As I recall, John had to close down another thread when it started discussing BitTorrent et al. Whether you agree w/ it or not, as per the DMCA, discussing how to break copyright and/or copy protection is illegal, and a Limewire/Torrent discussion can quickly head that way.

A good warning. Pandora is completely legal. Not sure of the legalities of copying the stream via sound recording software. What's the legalities of holding a tape recorder up to your stereo (remember those days?)? Same thing.

Torrents are legal by themselves... it depends on what you're downloading...

I hear what you're saying though.

I don't know what any of this stuff is. I take it that Limeware is one of those peer to peer networks?

Precisely. Got popular fast because A) No bullsh!t spyware B) the feds weren't watching it like they hawk Kazaa.

I just use iTunes... the quality is guaranteed good... sure it's $0.99 for a song, but at least a moron with no encoding experience didn't create the download. Half the stuff you get on LimeWire or whatever is crap encoding.

If you do the crime ... can you do the time ... or do you feel "lucky"??? PUNK ???

Gotcha. Used to be a big Napster proponent until I grew up and realized what I was doing was fundamentally wrong. I know what Kazaa is and have no interest...don't want any legal problems or bullsh!t spyware on my computer.

Didn't know you could buy songs for $.99 thru iTunes though. Will have to check that out. That's a reasonable price for a song IMO.

Yep, in college I did the whole Peer-to-Peer then grew up as well. I won't download MP3s now unless they're no sh!t kosher to be free.

Yeah, most all songs on iTunes are $0.99 and most albums are $9.99, which in some cases is a GREAT deal. The format for iTunes songs is an Apple proprietary format, made for the iPod. It's a lossless encoding and it sounds good. You can burn them to CD in MP3 format I believe with the new iTunes software, in case you need them in MP3. I like it, especially since I have an iPod...

Didn't mean to side track the discussion, just putting out the warning. However, this is all pretty relevent. I know Pandora is legal (I messed w/ it some time ago and was impressed).

Yup, copy all on the Torrents, and I'm a big proponent of them. I think you can still hold a tape recorder to your stereo, legally. But digitally recording the same song gets sticky. Should it be different if you paid for the song? There's the big debate. One huge issue I have w/ the DMCA is that it makes downloading independently recorded broadcast TV technically illegal. There's a multitude of reasons why that's stupid.
