German made P229 question....

I actually have a couple questions that I figured I'd post here since we have some Sig buffs before I go over to sigforum and ask around over there.

First question, I have a completely made in Germany Sig P229 obviously non-railed that my father purchased new in November of 94. He put about 200 rounds through it, my brother put another 70, and I've put probably 50 through it the short time I've owned it. He gave it too me as a gift about 6 months ago, and like most German made Sigs I've heard about, shoots incredibly well. It started it's life as a .357 Sig but my father quickly bought a .40 Sig factory barrel for it and that's what we've always put through it. Now the question, as much as I like it, I'm thinking about getting a newer one, railed, possibly a 229 Elite, maybe just a regular Nitron. Though I like having a few more rounds in the 9mm, I'll probably stick with a .40 and use the .357 Sig spare barrel for shooting more. If I get a good deal on a 9mm, the gun and spare barrel will get sold. Is it "appropriate" to sell an originally .357 Sig gun with a .40 barrel only? Just curious because a gun I'm currently looking at is a bi-tone .40 and I could then use the .357 barrel.

2nd, anybody have any idea what it's worth. Awesome conditon with a light scuff mark on the top of the slide and a couple small blemishes on the grip screws, but it's never been holstered so it doesn't have any carry wear. I was thinking about asking $550. Good/Bad?

3rd, linked directly with #2, if anybody's in the market for a German made 229 let me know...I figured I'd post it here first before going elsewhere. I can easily load some detailed photo's in a heart beat if need be. We'd obviously do the whole FFL deal but that conversation is for another time.

The first question is the big one, any help would be awesome, everything else is just extra.

Thanks.

If you are planning on switching to a different P229 that may also be in .40 and .357.....why bother selling what you have? The rail is overrated, especially if the one you already have has night sights. The P229 in 9mm doesnt gain much in capacity anyways....just one round, so why bother? Save the extra ~300 you'd spend and just get some good night sights on the pistol you already have. It'd cost maybe $120.

550 is more than a fair price though, if I was in the market I'd go for it.

But I'd stick with what you have vs. possibly regret selling it.

Thanks for the reply. In reality I'm just trying to trade for something a little newer. My dad is a huge gun collector/president of large gun club/one of everything ever made kind of guy. Whereas I typically go through times were I only have 3 or 4 guns that I like. I find another one I like, and I sell one I have. I just can't warrant keeping every firearm I own like my father has. With SIG's military discount, I can get a new Nitron or Two-Tone for $600 out the door. I think thats a pretty good deal if I need to part with a 14 year old gun.....immaculate...but still 14 years old. I get bored fast, I like switching it up.

Anyone know anything about zipper back magazines? Pops gave me all the mags for the 229 he had, and all 7 of them are pre-ban zipperbacks. Are these like more expensive or what?

Go to SIGFORUM.com there are quite a few dealers that offer up some nice deals for all types of SIGs on there. And with Sig's $100 for military after you mail your shiat in, it's a pretty good deal.

I had heard from a local gunshop (Jay's) that there was a Sig military deal. They are selling new sigs of various models for ~715 which include 3 mags and night sights. I didn't know that you could fill out some paperwork and get additional money off!

Also found out about a pawn shop in the area that will sell brand new Glocks to military members including 3 mags starting at $405.

The $100 off is on their website, sigsauer.com, $405 isn't bad, Quantico Arms in Q-Town used to G17's for that price, military discount. If you have one in your area, Quantico Arms is OUTSTANDING when it comes to military discounts. BTW, that's about what I can get a Sig for, $700ish, but I've never heard of "sig" cutting the deal?

Fly,

Maybe I confused what the gunshop said. I figured Sig was the one that offered the good price for military via the local shops. I could be mistaken. I'll check out their website and look for the rebate that you speak of.
