Chain of command/timeline depending, yes.
As long as you have the time, they'll let you go.

Depending on the country you want to go to, the approval process can be a couple of weeks (Canada/europe etc) to several months ("yellow flag" countries).

I think this is probably generational. When I said there are guys/gals who took up zyns, I mean people who didn't even dip before that are doing it. I'll say that any kind of nicotine is perhaps helpful when studying long hours/flying long hours for some people. And I think Zyn seems less harmful to newcomers, than perhaps chewing tobacco (and probably less taboo as well). But to say that it has exploded amongst the ready rooms of the USN would be a tremendous understatement. Which I guess is my point. It's a bad health choice, and though not nearly as nasty as dip, it carries with it many of the same long term health risks. I know that is hard to worry about when you are strapping into a grey jet and will be flinging yourself at the ramp in the dark in a few hours. At least that was my mentality at one point. But it was a dumb mentality.

Looking back, I wish I got deathly ill and vomited the first time I ever dipped...but I didn't. I rarely flew without a dip in, bc it was a bad habit that was hard to break at that point. With regards to smoking, the CH-53E was designed with 2 ashtrays in the cockpit for each pilot...they had long been removed by the time I flew them though. :(

Question for anyone who may know. (I’ve tried the search function to no avail and asked my personal network of naval aviators with varying answers.)

Trying to find information on if it is 1.) allowed and 2.) reasonable to work a separate job while waiting to class up for NIFE. Something that would be remote and asynchronous.

It was allowed when i was waiting for NIFE.
They had me route a request chit up from CoC that I never heard back from.

As long as it doesn't conflict with your military duties, should be fine.

Generally has been allowed in A-pool from what I understand, with appropriate level permission. Talk to your class advisor. You still have to show up for musters, and the day you class up, they'll expect you to forget all about your side hustle.

I had a buddy who was a fry cook for about 6 months while in A-pool.
