Flight Physical

So I am going to take my flight physical in a month and just wanted to know what to expect. My vision is 20/20 and I haven't had any medical problems.

However, I did have some dental work done (a root canal and some cavities that STILL need to be filled). I am a bit of a worrier, and was wondering if this might disqualify me or require some sort of a waiver?

If this is a meaningless concern, feel free to poke fun at me.

Poke fun at you? How can that be done based on only one post?

BUMED won't worry about a few cavities.

Now, go do something stupid so you can be made fun of.

Expect to sit around and wait... a lot.

Bring a book.

Hey I'm a newbie here too (in registration terms) and I have to agree with pennst8 on that. You sit around and wait a lot, but as for your cavities, you should be fine. I just went in November and had not had a dental exam in like 2 years and I had to get a special form for that to clear it up (I think i was dental class 3 or something) but you should be fine, so you were better off than I was, and I just found out today I got an SNA slot...and bring sunglasses...you WILL get your eyes dialated and it WILL suck.

Make sure you get your eyes dialated at the correct time. There are two phases of the eye exam and the one phase your eyes have to be non-dialated. I had a couple of friends who got screwed and had to go back up later to finish the other part.

I remember they gave us those thin plastic sunglasses after they dialated our eyes. Needless to say, we had a hard time picking up girls at the NEX.

We had our eyes dialated like the 2nd thing done, so the rest of the time trying to fill out the forms and making sure things were correct was fun, I think they did that for a good laugh.

They told us to go get lunch while our eyes were still jacked up.

The stash Ensign who was with us told the waitress at Applebees we were all retards and didn't know how to read when we had to resort to asking him to read the menu aloud.

I tried to pay using my drivers licence instead of my visa.

Actually now that I think about it - when you go, make sure you have someone else to drive you home, you won't be allowed to drive back.

Make sure you have sunglasses...after my eyes were dilated I wanted to stab the sun. Also, make sure you get all your boxes checked. The NH in Corpus Christi forgot to make me pee in a cup...delayed my package probably a month because I had to call the NRD to find out "someone" had already called me to tell me about the delay. Oh and don't wear your GI Joe underwear.

This was my experience with flight physicals: don't let the Army do them if you're Navy/Marine Corps. If that's your only option, make sure that they have filled out all the equivalent forms and everything is good to go. I had to go to Miramar after having an Army flight physical because I was missing all sorts of stuff (chest X-rays, a correct anthropomorphic sheet, etc.).

DOUBLE CHECK THE ANTHRO SHEET! I had a buddy who had his package submitted with a bad anthro sheet; the lady measured most of his body in inches (correct) but his arms or something in centimeters. Made him look, at least on paper, like he was a gorilla. It took a long while for him to straighten it out.

I second the bringing the book for while you can still see close up, as well as the sunglasses and someone to drive you back. Sometimes they will give you the reversing drops to counteract the dilating drops, sometimes they won't.

Good luck.

Power Rangers could be a problem too? Some of us may want to make a statement, let the undergarments do the talking, you know...

Are we allowed to poke fun at people for spelling errors? I know I'm probably not the best won to talk about this, but it seems like someone smarter than me should be able to correct simpel spelling and grammer airers.

*Sarcasm Note: Hilariously ironic spelling errors in the above post. Can you find all 4?*
