Nice to see Capt. Herman A. Shelanski made it! I remember reading an article about him when he commanded the Truman.

"Navy Capt. Kevin D. Scott has been nominated for appointment to the rank of rear admiral (lower half). Scott is currently serving as division director for the Aviation Career Management Division, PERS 43, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tenn. "

Interesting, the current CNATRA had the same post before he put on his first star...looks like that is one of the "good" O-6 billets (is there a bad one?) to keep moving up...

Only 24 more years until MY first star...

He's one of my old Skippers. I think he may be the first HELMINERON admiral that made it via traditional methods vice AP or similar.

About how many years do you guys think it takes to make O-7???

I would think most guys wouldn't even be up for O-6 until their 18-20 year mark.

JR made it - good for him. I hope C. Ladd isn't as fortunate.

Most of the people on that list are ~80-84 year groups. That's probably the best answer. (Certainly the max is 30 years commissioned service because that's mandatory retirement for O-6.)

Professional knowledge moment- don't forget that the jump to flag is a different process than O1-O6/CWO/CPO promotions (which are relatively similar), or E4-E6, or E1-E3 (which is basically automatic).

Most of the Pers-43 jobs are good for the career.

Where I am...well, that remains to be seen. I just move bodies.

Anyone know at about what year O-6's get looked at for flag?

There are a lot of year group 81 on the list. I think all the nuke aviation selectees are yg 81. It can take them a bit longer to be eligible because they have to be in the final year of their carrier CO tour.
