Parts of Texas are hot, arid, miserable places to live. How do you get people excited about living there? Keep telling them
how great they got it: "Hey, your lucky to be living in this place. You're a
Texan!!! Be thankful that you came from the place that gave you the Alamo, Sam Houston, pointy boots with high heels, etc." Fill their heads with info about Texas dividing up into 5 separate states, flag height, and that everyone else wants to be like them.
The schools teach how "great" the state is and the kids get indoctrinated from an early age. They then march forth to tell everyone they meet where they are from (within 3 mins of meeting them), and how proud they are of it.
The Marines do this on a smaller scale ("You are lucky to be living in this lean to and taking a leak on a palm tree every morning, 'cuz you are a Marine...").
That being said, I've got some pretty great friends from Texas, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Corpus Christi.
