Final Select Purgatory

some other info, Oceano/SWO-Oceano have very narrow degree requirements so it significantly limits who decides to apply so that inflates the selection percentage the same goes for CWE as they have a small list of colleges they accept degrees from.

The best ones to keep an eye on are IW and Intel, SWO options and IP have such low quotas that it isn't uncommon for them to be at 0 then next time at say 5 so people will skip them and go for something that always has a quota, some just don't want to apply for SWO options since they don't want to go to a ship and earn a pin
It's my personal and professional opinion that SWO should not limited by age 31. Many do not want to apply for SWO because of the challenge. Every SWO I have met say it's a dog eat dog world with the community. The age requirement must driven by billets for those to rank up to Captain and/or eventually Admiral. If my age were not an issue I would applied for it. Great info, thanks for the reply!

NRC
None
NRC is signing Final Select letters four classes out. This is done to ensure that if a date is assigned, that applicant will ship on that date. There are other factors as well, such as there are 17 OCS classes per year and NRC works to level load each class so there is not a log jam in training post OCS. Certain communities also desire that their selects attend certain classes due to follow on schools. More factors include age critical folks get priority. Generally speaking, the way it works is that if all your documentation is at NRC and verified, your name goes to the bottom of the ready list and assigned a ship date accordingly. Another factor is that NRC is not assigned final designator specific shipping goals until late in the shipping season. NRC is the fill gap between USNA and ROTC. NRC is required to increase or decrease shipping based on over or under production of USNA or ROTC. Most of the above is out of the control of the applicant. All concerns above are NOT falling on deaf ears. What applicants can control is getting all the required documentation to his/her recruiter that is requested or for Fleet applicants to get info directly to NRC in a timely manner.

make sure you save this in a word document or something, about every 6 months or so the same questions comes up and the same answer ends up being put out.

Checking in from the September 2015 SNA/SNFO board. Pro Rec Y for both SNA (1st) and SNFO (2nd). More hurry up and wait, but at least the board has taken place.

Checking in from the September 2015 SNA/NFO board. Pro Rec Y for both with SNA being my primary choice. Feels so good to get over this hurdle...on to the next!

any study materials that would be helpful before OCS?[/QUOTE
Every question you will be asked will by the Chief Petty officer of Marine Drill Sergeant. The Chief Petty Officers will ask questions as such "Officer Candidate "Name" What does the Chief of Naval Personnel wear as a collar device?" You should appropriately respond "Chief or Drill Sergeant; The Chief of Naval Personnel wears as a collar device four silver stars; Chief or Drill Sergeant." Yes, you need to repeat their title at the beginning and at the end of the response. Rank and recognition, Chain of Command, Code of Conduct, and more are all questionable material.
