btw, has anyone found out if the JSF has been carrier tested yet. any web sites with info would be great too. also, what do you think the odds are that the navy and marines could combine their aviation into a whole separate branch of sea-based aviation? leave the marines with their ground forces and the navy with their ships and subs.

Before that would happen all aviation would go to the USAF. I don't see either happening. Not that versions of this don't come up occasionally. Usually some pin headed academic that is looking at $$ and sees no other value in the current arrangement. Just one reason it won't happen is that the Navy would still need aviation offficers and enlisted to man vital ship's company billets on aviation ships from CVs to the gators. There are 100s of jobs for airdales on a ship. If the USAF or some other service had our aviation all those guys would end in some kind of interservice exchange frequently in their career. The Navy would want their aviators to maintain their sea service identity. As to the Marines, same thing. Grunts want Marines overhead looking out for them. They have seen how the Air Farce supports the Army and wants nothing of it.

I dont believe the JSF is at the stage to be ready for carrier testing yet. I do know though that the Navy brought in a pilot to test out the C version doing various Navy manuveurs, such as wave offs, touch and goes, etc..
