As a ROT, if you post up and say you're not being pissy, defensive, or thin-skinned... you are.

But when someone makes a conscious choice to do drugs, and more than a couple times that maybe could be accounted to peer pressure or experimentation, they closed a lot of doors. They may still go on to be a productive member of society, but odds are the heavy drug users won't.
I agree with this completely. I think drug use is indicative of a personality type in which the person isn't able to properly comprehend the gravity of their actions, or worse, simply doesn't care. As a future Officer, this is not the type of person I want serving with me. Become a journalist. Write satire for Rolling Stone. Just stay away from the Navy.

I don't have a chip on my shoulder. I also do not have thin skin. And I'm not "pissy." I will admit, that I don't like that some of you think I'm looking for someone to bend over backwards for me. I don't look for handouts. I don't want special treatment, I only came here for an answer. Hell, I even asked in my original post if I'm out of luck. Obviously I came into this thread knowing my situation is not a good one. Everything I have in life, I've gotten on my own. Ordinarily, I would not care what some strangers on the Internet think of me, but I despise the assumption that I am some kind of low life or am unable to deal with consequences.

I came here for a simple piece of information, not sympathy or the desire to change the system. I now have my answers.

Of course I have to ask. Past decisisons obviously have an impact on one's current or future life. I know that now and I wish I would have known that when I was young and stupid. The fact that I've changed as a person does not invalidate the impact the past will have on me.

Of course you can. I can also tell you your assumptions are wrong.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate everyone's time.

If you're going to quote me do it properly.

You couldn't take a joke, and that's why you got flamed.

as far as assuming things go, what should we assume? what is the correct answer? did you "accidently" smoke mj countless times? Did someone tie you down and force you to do blow? And did the X just happen to fall in your drink?

The fact is you didn't just make one or two bad decisions, you made a ton of. And from what it sounds like, you didn't just experiment, you tried the whole damn lot.

No one on here is saying you can't apply. Go for it. Hell apply like mad for waivers. But do not come here looking for self reassurance and then start flaming and complaining because people, no not just people, WINGED OFFICERS are telling you like it is.

and for the record, I never did drugs,

the first time I got "high" it was in April of 2006 and it ended up resulting in this:

*I removed the certificate numbers and my last name incase anyone was gonna try and get "crafty" :p

So, what more do you want from us? We told you that you aren't getting into the Officer program. That's what 95% of these people are. (the rest? well, we're either spouses, recruits or wannabees)...

You heard "no way in hell," "quit being defensive," "give it a try," and "it can't hurt." You got all possible answers. The only other answer is, "you sound like a great candidate welcome to the Marine Corps."

There. Happy?

What more have I asked for? Damn. I even thanked everyone for their responses. I haven't asked for anything expect for a couple answers, which I've received.

And if you're going to correct my simple mistake, you should correct your own simple mistake.
