Ok thanks Flash. While it is curious that a couple of years ago the same Wiki page noted that Lehman was Stoof pilot, in general his main professional skills are others than ones required in NavAir. Interesting enough that this rising of the CAG role revolves around strike doctrines.

The latest episode of "Chain of Command" on the National Geographic channel has the CSG commander (RDML Whitesell) and CAG flying. Good episode.

7th or 8th? In a 7th there was only CAG aloft, in a Black Lions' 18F. They both are NFOs, right? Look, I have seen it before in a Carrier series: is there special smoking spot on a port catwalk of a Nimitz-class where the officers can smoke sigars? Kinda tradition? Can there be a JO smoking thin sigarettes among them, or it is just for leadership and a taste of an old Cuban tobacco?

There are a couple different places, ship dependent, where officers will occasionally hang out and smoke cigars in the evening. When I was on Nimitz, the common place was on the starboard side, right next to the RHIB launch. Occasionally you would hear about people going up to the Flag Bridge deck and smoking on the sponson on the starboard side, but I never did. On my current boat, the Admiral's sponson is the preferred place, and the RHIB launch area that we smoked on the Nimitz is a seaside gym on this boat.

Thanks, so it seems to be a tradition. Good, as the anti-smoking fights as such are stupid enough in military. Maybe some special forces where people should run for miles on a daily basis with weapon and gears in a hands have reasonable opinion against smoking, but it was a disaster on a Russian Navy Akula class SSNs (971 Project) since it was the first class of a boats without intended smoking room. So the station of a transceiving radio apparatus, a deck below the central command post, became very popular when submerged due to its enforced ventilation, though formally this is classified room with very limited access
