I think you are training correctly. I know of a LE officer who serviced a bad guy 5 minutes after his EO Tech died. His irons were dialed in and he solved the problem. I have seen too many EO Techs die on the range. They are the most common optic out there, but also have the highest failure rate in my view. I believe all irons should be co-witnessed.

The DiamondHead Sight

Hey guys...
Just thought you would like to know... The DiamondHead Sight from Troy Industries is coming out in about 2 weeks. They will be $160ea. I have two right now and they are, in my opinion, the best on the market. Even though they are not yet on the market. haha
