That was my thinking, as well, with the added bonus of my dwell ending a few months prior to my first look at O-6. Not only do I want to avoid that, but there truly aren't any O-6 jobs I want (not to mention the increasing proportion of unpaid time being part of the job). Waiting a year to screen, up to a year to pin it on, and then another 3 years as O-6 -- not worth another 5 years of being away from home 25% of the [weekend] time to boost a pension that I won't even see for another 10+ years after I finally hang it up. Better to focus that energy on "my real job" and the family. TriCare access wasn't enough to keep me around. Despite what some people think/fear, the military isn't the only place to make money or get health insurance...
