May have been a movie, but the sentiment is pretty close. You do this long enough, you or people you know will be involved in some sort of Mishap.

Try to learn from them, and keep it from happening again..

Wow thank you everyone who took time to respond to my problem. I very much want to saddle back up as soon as possible don't get me wrong. All I ever wanted was to be a pilot and serve in the military, so I think I have to look at this in the way that I would much rather be cruising the skies than riding a desk in 20 years.

Prowler porn idea...I will try because that and F-18 vids are sweet and motivate me.

Also yeah I thought I was immortal until a few days ago, I mean who doesn't when your 17, but when I lost control of the airplane and started to be 'taken for a ride' and saw pavement and grass in the windshield it was scary.

This isn't affecting me as much as I thought it would (slept like a baby last night), but thanks again everyone. This is a really awesome board and I would like to thank whoever created it. -Slurvin

Just remember, you are not imortal. That will help you recognize and improve on your mistakes so you won't get bit in the future. I promise you everyone on this board who has been in aviation a while has had a few traumatic experiences/close calls, but they still do what they do because they love it and understand the stakes.

Could happen to anyone. I have had a few shaky landings that could have gone very differently had conditions/my reactions gone differently. With anything worth continuing in life....get back in the saddle and get up before the anxiety becomes too great. Good luck and make your dreams a reality.

I agree with the above responses. Strap on a pair and get back in the saddle. Great learning experience, character builder and story for your grandchildren.

As far as being a military pilot, at some point, rest assured, you will be flying a desk more than the aircraft, unfortunately. I think the army warrant officers have better luck there.

Anybody else have 2 cents worth on that?

Uhhhh .... yeah! :)

20 years active & reserve = 18 years in the cockpit. It's ALL timing ...

And, once again, I'd rather be lucky than "good" anyday ... ;)

My $20 worth.

Well this last weekend I went up with an instructor and flew out to our practice area and came back and did 4 Takeoffs and Landings total. I am still alive so all is well and in a month if everything goes well I should have my private (50 hrs right now).

By riding a desk I just meant something like my dad does. He works in a large office and is always in meetings or on his computer.
All the Best,

Hello, I've been reading this board for a coupe of months and I really enjoy it.

I have a little over 50 hours flight time and thought I wanted to be a Naval Aviator until a couple of days ago. My problem is that my instructor and I crashed the plane when we were landing, due to wind gusts we believe (still under investigation). We were fine but I was shaken up to say the least and I don't know what to do about flying now.

I loved to fly, but now I'm a little scared and confused about what I want to do. I am in high school and was close to taking my checkride for PPL. Has something similar happened to anyone here? because everyone tells me I should just get back on the horse so to speak and continue to fly.

The Navy and the Marines are what I see in my future, but everything is so confusing right now, any pilots out here have any suggestions for me? Thanks, Slurvin

Life's a garden. Dig it.
I took my parents SUV into a ravine in college and one of the first things they did once I recovered was to stick me in the brand new one the insurance company got them and told me to drive it.

Because the first one didn't finish you off..

"Dang honey, he lived through that one! Better get him another one and see if it'll do the job right this time!"

*Update if anyone who watched this thread cares

Saturday, September 8th I accomplished my goal and earned my private pilot's license. Im only 17 years old right now and it feels great to have this 'license to learn'. I cannot wait to one day fly for the Navy!
