Couple of thoughts. Kalifornia is actually a couple of bills behind DPRMD, to wit:
1. All hand guns sold in Maryland require that two shell casings, fired from the gun, be sent to Maryland State Police. The markings on the casing is used to set up a database so when a shell casing is found at the scene Poolice would be able to track in the database gun ownership based on unique marking on the shell casing. Think this has been in effect for about eight years, they have never ever been able to track squat. They have plenty of excuses for that failure. Side Bar: I could not buy a 1911 receiver because I could not provide a fired shell casing.
2. All guns sold in MD, manufactured after a date certain must have a key lock internal to the gun. Side Bar: I purchased a Walthers a month ago, so far have not been able to get that infernal lock to work.
3. On the books in Maryland, since about 2001, is a requirerment that all hand guns sold in Maryland have an "intelligent trigger" that would identify the owner of a gun in order that it fire. The bill recognized that the technology is not yet available, but as soon as it is, that requirement will be invoked.
Really, I know it is early (awoken by fighting/mating racoons in back yard) but I did not make this stuff up.
Note related to CA Law: According to my owners manual, maintenance intervals require changing of the firing pin every 5,000 rounds.
