CA Mircrostamping bill passes.

Couple of thoughts. Kalifornia is actually a couple of bills behind DPRMD, to wit:

1. All hand guns sold in Maryland require that two shell casings, fired from the gun, be sent to Maryland State Police. The markings on the casing is used to set up a database so when a shell casing is found at the scene Poolice would be able to track in the database gun ownership based on unique marking on the shell casing. Think this has been in effect for about eight years, they have never ever been able to track squat. They have plenty of excuses for that failure. Side Bar: I could not buy a 1911 receiver because I could not provide a fired shell casing.

2. All guns sold in MD, manufactured after a date certain must have a key lock internal to the gun. Side Bar: I purchased a Walthers a month ago, so far have not been able to get that infernal lock to work.

3. On the books in Maryland, since about 2001, is a requirerment that all hand guns sold in Maryland have an "intelligent trigger" that would identify the owner of a gun in order that it fire. The bill recognized that the technology is not yet available, but as soon as it is, that requirement will be invoked.

Really, I know it is early (awoken by fighting/mating racoons in back yard) but I did not make this stuff up.

Note related to CA Law: According to my owners manual, maintenance intervals require changing of the firing pin every 5,000 rounds.

I live in MD and didn't know about those laws. I have heard of them in general, i.e. they were coming, but I didn't know they had passed in MD.

Yep, all were signed into law by Gov Paris Glendenning . And the current "crowd" of democrats in Annapolis are trying to pass a law that would outlaw OWNERSHIP of "semi-automatic" weapons. The M1 Garand and the M1 Carbine are included, as well as double action revolvers as they fit "their" def of semi-automatic. If passed, please turn in all your illegal guns to your local poolice. "They" would of course provide some grace period for compliance.

Wow, that is disgusting. I need to look that up and see how I can support the other side.

Anyway...all joking aside...

I see this law as not very different than any other gun control legislation/laws out there. As MasterBates correctly pointed out, they, as is all legislation, are about control.

Secondly, avoiding the whole argument over Second Amendment infringement, these laws are fundamentally flawed in my point of view because of their impact. Quite simply, gun control legislation, more than any other legislation type, principally impacts legal gun ownership contrary to its desire to effect illegal gun ownership.

Unfortunately (at least for legal gun owners), the United States is sold on a regulatory solution to the gun violence problem. Likely because it is cheaper and both politically expedient and capable of generating tremendous political capital. Much more effective would be an executive approach to solving gun violence. Put more police on the street, prosecute more vigorously the laws already in place, and most importantly, make strides to stop legal guns from becoming illegal ones.

Any right thinking individual realizes that the vast majority of firearms used in violent crime are not procured legally, and by definition will be unaffected by any gun control legislation, right minded or not.

Disgusting, aye. Think the bill now being proposed has no chance. Think even the most ardent gun control nuts know it is an over reach. However, a lot hinges on the Supreme Court decision. They have decided to hear the DC Gun Ban issue. My dollar bet sez the "Court" will rule on a small part of that issue, not the whole enchilada. But what do I know?:eek:

That is some of the silliest shit I have ever heard. I wonder if they will be providing any funding to the many organizations doing research and development of the 'intelligent trigger'. But, like any gun legislation, it sure does make me feel warm and fuzzy inside ...
