Best Khaki's?

Depending on your unit, they might require you to wear a certain kind. We actually wore straight up cotton for my first couple years (in Minnesota in the winter, so everything was wrinkly all the time) before they got smart and had us wear CNTs. I'd wait until you've started to make sure you're not wasting money.

Personally, I think poly-wool is WAY more comfortable than CNTs, and the sewn in creases look sharp in my opinion. Don't have a brand recommendation for ya, though, since I haven't cared enough to notice the difference.

My NROTC unit had an unwritten rule that underclassmen wore wash khakis and 2/c and 1/c mids could wear CNTs or poly-wools if they purchased them on their own.

If you know they're kosher, poly-wool is the way to go in my opinion.

1) This might sound harsh, but you may want to wait a while and get a little farther along before you make a big investment in personal uniforms. A lot of things can/do happen before the day you get to pin your first gold bars on. The majority of my original freshman NROTC class did not end up commissioning....I think there were 10 of 30-something of us who did. Personally, I would wait and save my meager MIDN paycheck for more enjoyable activities/purchases if I were you. I did, and when I finally did buy uniforms before I commissioned, they were all new, fit well, and it made it all just that much better :)

2) Flying Cross khakis are money, especially for us skinny guys. The "athletic cut" ones are especially nice IMHO. CNT's just look sloppy in my opinion, at least the way most guys get them tailored.

I'm ALWAYS "happy" to see you boys .... :D

Well if you're that "happy" then there are probably better websites for that than AW. Oh you said "happy to see...boys", well then I imagine there are websites for that too, but you'll have to talk to Chris Mathews of MSNBC about it.:D

Sorry, I saw the low hanging fruit and went for it. Feel free to go back to the thread now.

Agreed on the first part. We had about 55% attrition, mostly self induced. Also, I was 5'10" 165 when I started and 6'0" 185 when I commissioned, definitely needed new uniforms by senior year.

On the second part, I haven't worn Flying Cross so they may be very nice, but I have Abbott's and I know they are awesome. They are wrinkle free out of the dryer, light-weight, breathable, have permanent creases (and no they don't look bad, to whatever previous post downed them), and Abbott's will tailor them for you. They cost a bit more than what you get at the NEX, but if you tailor your NEX bought stuff (which you should, unless you are the 10% of people that the shirt actually looks good on straight out of the box) then they end up being about the same. Plus Abbott's will re-tailor them gratis for as long as you own the uniform, or until you get so fat that they can't take it out any further and you just need to buy new uniforms. You shouldn't let yourself go like that, really you shouldn't. Now where did I put my ice cream.:D

V-Neck T

What's the consensus on V neck t-shirts? I prefer them but rarely see other JOs wearing them. One big advantage is they never get worn out and ratty looking.

I've only seen O6 and above with them.

I like the poly/wool, except they smell like a dead dog when they get rained on. I'm too lazy to iron in my own creases, and they just sit inmy closet anyway. I always thought CNT was uncomfortable because they didn't breathe.
