Before they became "Flight Attendants" they were known as "Stewardesses".... oh yeah!

A4s probably knew some of these fine women, and no doubt dated most of them. Yeah-as? :D
Me, I always got the ______! ....[Not!]

[My deepest apologies if anyone's grandmother actually appears in this vid. But as they might tell you, it was a great time to be alive!]

The 70's were the last decade where flight travel was considered a special occasion. Good looking gals posing in Playboy AND keeping their job etc.. I recall being on a flight from OAK to San Diego on PSA as a teenager and those pink miniskirts with tall vinyl boots made aviation exciting. I mean which would you rather fly with...

with this...

Put a gun in her hand--something dainty--and I'll be able to get a twofer... 1. Hot flight attendant; 2. Bond girl. Score!

Flew on a UA flight earlier this week with a 50-something, gay Jamacain guy running first class and the announcements. I wanted to stab my eyes out.

Those "stewardesses" from the 70's are still on American from what I can tell. But, now they are old battle-axes that are constantly pissed off, chubby and are just counting the minutes until their pansion is fully funded.

I miss the days when people would actually dress nice for their flight, too. Just had that thought.

Oh yeah, you're right. I'm all for being comfortable, but pajamas were never in the acceptable category of traveling attire when I was brought up. My wife thinks I'm crazy for wearing a sport coat or suit sans tie when I travel, but the difference in how you're often treated is astonishing.

Ha that's the truth... now, you just get the peanuts or crackers tossed at you with a blank stare and no verbal contact. :D

Anyone here ever travel in SDB's? I think they would blend in rather nicely with the airline pilot uniforms, and perhaps lead to really nice treatment.

Had this discussion with a few fellow Ensigns. Khakis vs SDBs were a tossup, but I'd say SDBs are more comfortable. I feel like I have to fix the gig line every time I move in khakis.

Obviously, no way in hell for international flights. CONUS flights were split, mostly for people wanting to blend in when we're on leave. Official business travel would be as needed. Me personally? I'd rather the 20 year old PO3/LCpl coming home from the 'Stan get some recognition and special treatment.

I've been treated very, very nicely duringnthe few times I've actually traveled in uniform. That being said, perhaps I'm just being paranoid, but why make myself a target if I don't have to?

...And not just for terrorism, etc, but also for shit like one my younger Lieutenants got while we were coming back from Afghanistan earlier in the year. One of the 'Sexy Stews' tried to get to know him better...in the Biblical sense. Which sounds way cooler than it was, considering she looked like Nel Carter and Michael Vick's unholy love child.

Yes and hot damn. J.Floyd Andrews knew what he was doing when he hired the hot honeys for PSA. I flew for PSA in 1969 and loved every minute of them. It was party time. wheeeeew

If the FAs think you're a pilot, they is a 50-50 chance they will treat you worse. At many major airlines, many of the FAs are very jealous of pilot pay, etc.

During our bankruptcy, I actually heard the head of our FA union tell the CEO of the company that he could save the airline money by adjusting pay so that the pilots and FAs all got the same (pilots down, FAs up) - "after all, we're all aircrew flying the same aircraft". The head of our union stood up and said "Okay, next time we come into Honolulu you land the plane and I'll serve the coffee".

Yeah, I figured there was that alternate possibility. Great quote from the head of the union. HAHA
