BAH while at OCS for the wife

Okay, so the area BAH released for 2006 has put my wife's nerves at ease a bit now about finances for our ridiculously over price apartment. On that note, will BAH be included in the same check or deposit as regular pay? When will she get the first BAH payment after arrival at OCS? I am just trying to figure out if I need to pull out some savings for her or not.

Also, BAH is based on where my wife resides, not Quantico, correct?

BAH is included in Regular pay...it starts from the day that you check into your command...and started by the Personnel Support(sic) Detachment there in PCola...

I'm not sure how that works with OCS, if there is someone helping or not, but assuming that you check in before JAN 20th or so, you'll see your first payment of the new BAH 1FEB...and if you check in after that, you'll be backpaid to the point you checked in, but it won't show up until 15FEB.

Welcome to the military. Where's your overpriced apt?

I check in Jan 22nd, so I guesss that means she will see it the 15th of Feb? Overpriced Apartment is in the DC metro area.

I would NOT count on getting paid DC Metro BAH. I WOULD count on getting paid the rate for Quantico.

DISCLAIMER: I am not current on all the current rules for gaining members. But:

- When you are gained into the military your pay ALWAYS gets fucked up
- PSDs the world over lose your paperwork when it is important to you, or leave it buried in their "in" basket to work on later in the week to coincide with 1 day too late to get into the system for your NEXT PAY DAY
- I doubt that you will get paid BAH for DC METRO, but I COULD be mistaken. I do know that if my wife decided to go live in DC right now, the Navy would not pay me that rate.
- Plan for the worst, and be pleasantly suprised if things go your way

I was told for OCS you are paid based on the wife's residence. I mean we have a lease in DC metro, not in Qtown. That wouldn't make sense. Can anybody who has been to Marine OCS that is married verify please?

BAH rates are based on the service member's PCS duty station NOT where your spouse lives. If you are TAD/TDY to Quantico, then you MIGHT get the DC rate.

Been there and married.
1. Bring a Marriage Cert. you might not need it but most likely you will.
2.You will not be an "O-1" you will be an "E-5" as far as pay is concerned for OCS. Something about Officer Candidate not being a rank, go figure.
3. My wife stayed in Texas and they asked for the zip and thats what they based it on.
4.
When you are gained into the military your pay ALWAYS gets fucked up.
The Marines in Admin do there best to help make sure you get all your paper work straight, but you won't have a shit load of time to talk to them once pick up starts.
5. Going back to #4 they will most likely not get all you paper work done in time for the first time you get you check, so you might need some of that savings.
For example with me this summer, my pay was all jacked up and so I got a months worth of BAH in one check. While the rest of the platoon was getting $300 bucks, the married guys were getting close to a grand *I am from Texas, No State Taxes, YESSSSSSSS*

Good Luck in the Snow, Just remeber that it will get warmer. If you have anyother questions you can PM me.

DISCLAIMER:
Shit changes and they could have changed the system. Remeber the Military saying, If it ain't broke, break it.

My bad...

Ok, I looked it up. Since you are an accession, you are entitled to where your spouse is at until you report to your first duty station (PCS orders).

Specifically, page 26-48:
http://www.dod.mil/comptroller/fmr/07a/07a_26.pdf

Table 26-9. Location Member’s BAH Rate is Based Upon Members With Dependents

LOCATION MEMBER’S BAH RATE IS BASED UPON—MEMBERS WITH DEPENDENTS

is newly inducted, enlisted, reenlisted, or an officer candidate ..... location of the dependents (note 6).

6. If the dependents are OCONUS (does not include Alaska and Hawaii), the TDY location must be used to pay BAH. If dependents are CONUS, the BAH entitlement will continue to be the dependents’ location until the member reports to the first duty station other than for training. This note only applies to new accessions.

Yeah, that is after a month of being apart right riley? How much is seperation pay? I'm not really worried about that, just the BAH bc my wife can't get by without it. My OSO originally told me I didn't get BAH but that didn't make sense to me.

So to OCS I bring my marriage cert., leasing agreement, and thats all for my wife to get the money right?

A few other MUST DOs:

1) Make copies of everything. Don't give them originals unless they ask specifically for it...then make sure you can get it back
2) Always hand carry your medical record/info - ESPECIALLY VACCINATION RECORDS. You'll OD on polio meds if they lose your medical records and you have no record of vaccination meds...
3) Once issued, also hand carry your NATOPS Jacket, Logbook and Training Record but don't worry about that now...enjoy QTown.

e6286,

I'd also bring a copy of her social security card. Like what chunk said - I didn't bring any originals. For my marriage certificate and other important ones I had a notary certify that these were copies of the original.

You're right on the separation pay - if I remember it was around $180 to $200 - every bit helps, though.

I have 2 official marriage certs. that we got so I am going to bring one original down bc it was only 5 bucks and its not like its a big deal if they lose it. I think my OSO is going to copy her ss card and birth cert. at my preship meeting. Should work out fine with the BAH and everything.
