I would like to get a nice pair of aviator sunglasses because my Oakley's have done their job. I only know of two brands. The Ray Ban aviators, and Randolph Engineering aviators. What are you guys wearing out there?

check out a site flightsuits.com the have everything from gloves to the 52/56 straightbacks. I think they are around 60 bucks and well worth it.

I am still a civilian and got some of the randolph's and was not happy at all simply becase I can't wear them with my headset when I fly which is the whole reason I got them. If you are going to buy sunglasses and you fly privately I would take your headset with you to the shop and try some out.

Utrico, what caused your sunglasses not to fit while you had your headphones on? Was it because the glasses go straight back over your ear?

I had real problems with my Ray Bans when I was flying, so much so that I returned them and got a pair of Oakleys insted. Also, I wouldn't get polarized ones if you fly. I couldn't read the nav feq with them on.

If you are wanting aviators becuase you want o be like aviators. The ones that get issued to all the SNAs usaually stay in the cheap leather case they give you on the top shelf of your closet.

EA-6B1, yeah the problem I had was just that they went back and the headset clamped on them. They were a christmas present that I should return soon. The best sunglasses I have found to fly with cost me $5 and look a lot better.

You guys need a good pair of SWO glasses....much snazzier than aviator shades. Besides, most aviators won't even touch their aviator glasses. Just like BCH said above, they stay in their case.

Feel free to go out and buy your own Randolph Engineering HGU-4/Ps (reading from the case). But don't be surprised when everyone in the squadron (when/if you get there) makes fun of you for it. I can't honestly say I know anyone who wears them.

Most people wear something they like that's conservative enough to wear in uniform. Personally, I wear RayBan Predators.

Any one got any gouge on the deal Oakley had for military bubbas?
I heard rumors about it last year in Va Beach, but never nailed anything down.

Cheers -

I don't know a bout any specific deals, but if you go to your friendly neighborhood exchange, you can usually find pretty good deals on Oakleys, plus there's no tax. For example, bought a pair of half jackets for 70 bucks when they retail for 100 on Oakley's site. Another crazy deal I got was a pair of M frames for running that cost 65 bucks because the frame is red and they marked it down from 125 because they weren't selling well. The more popular black from was 125. You don't see those kind of deals at the sunglass hut!
