Being born in a country that no longer exists certainly doesn't help the SF86 situation. I was born in Bonn in what was then the Federal Republic of Germany - the form does not believe that this is a valid country, but also won't let me put down regular old Germany.

I was PR-ed for SNA/SNFO and disclosed that I had LASIK upfront and asked if I was qualified to apply for the study. I was told yes, and so far, no complications.

What paperwork are you processing/compiling? I provided my pre-op, op, and post-op at the very start of the process, and-to my knowledge-it was uploaded with my packet that went before the boards.

I haven't heard anything about an Aviation study, but I did get pro rec'd for SNA & SNFO. I told them about my LASIK too, at the start of the process, and my doctor filled out a form with the initial, 3 month, and 6 month post op results. I then hand-delivered the paperwork to my NRD as I do everything because I don't trust the mail.

Now I have a "Screening Ophthalmic Examination Following Lasik" form, which looks like a screening, cycloplegic, and slit lamp exam, with some other stuff. I go in Monday for this exam and hopefully get this waivered.

I am guessing they told you that they needed more information at MEPS when you processed through?

Is there anything you recommend getting taken care of ahead of time.

Are you going to your private doc?

They didn't really tell me anything at MEPS, a doctor reviewed all of my medical paperwork and said that I was good to go. This new form I have is for OOM I guess.

One thing I did was submit a hand written statement for everything checked "yes" on my medical questionnaire, basically explaining why I checked yes in my own words. My processor told me that the statements would greatly speed up the process.

Basically MEPS got a lasik form, a copy of my medical history, the medical questionnaire thing, and several hand written statements.

Yeah I'm going to see my surgeon at lasik plus. Hope this info helps
 
A word to the wise

Also, while we are talking about final select. I found that showing a pretty intense "passion" about wanting all your paperwork to be accepted and routed correctly has greatly helped my entire process. After all the hell I went through, I wrote a letter to my OR explaining that times aren't exactly good right now and being sworn in sooner rather than later would greatly help keep my grades up and be able to manage the days. I of course used some writing skills and made it more of something he could empathize with, but after I wrote this letter it seemed that everything went triple-speed and my final select letter was routed right away.

I check in with my OR every monday of the week, and sometimes everything other friday just for good measure. I'm certain this has helped get my final select immensly, and even my OR said that it showed how dedicated and excited I am to become an officer.

Take home note: if you are having troubles getting your final select after your pro-rec, I strongly suggest doing the above steps. There is nothing the navy likes more than to see how incredibly motivated a soon-to-be officer really is.

It's a huge help.

One last thing, when you said you wrote a statement for everything you checked "yes", did you essentially say that you had the LASIK performed in a certain time and the results were positive with no complications to date?

I will do the same and fax it to my NRD. I think I might just show up there one day the following week. I can't get through to anyone.

Sure man. I basically said just that, when it was performed, who performed it, no complications. Pretty simple and straight to the point.

If I remember right my statements were written on a specific letterhead that was provided to me at the NRD office, don't know if that's necessary or not.

I used to show up to my NRD without an appointment so often to push paperwork through that they didn't ask me who I was there to see anymore, they'd just buzz me in.

By the way, are you going through NRD Richmond?

The OR and Processor, well mostly the processor is doing thier best to get me F.S. ASAP. They are going to talk to someone to expedite the process as you know we have about 18 weeks to turn 27. The boards now have all of my papers (SF86 was not too bad to get it done, well two days or headaches with it)...... I told them I am ready to get out there and perform. I am so anxious about it..........

It was quicker for me to become a citizen (Five-Six month from day that I applied) than it has been to become a Naval Officer. I think it is funny somewhat!

Hurry up and get yer shit done bro. I want to meet you at OCS....!

That's awesome. I am going to do the same... Pending I can get ahold of anyone. I'll at least draft the letter so that it is ready to go to submit for med/final select.

I am processing through NRD Hyattsville however, I am in Arlington, VA.

HAH! That's funny about the citizenship.

I am having a difficult time getting shit moved through the office. The processor is uncooperative. I can't express to you the frustration. This is going to be a prolonged struggle.

Right now MEPS is being held up because my file needs to be released from the USCG in LA to the Navy in Baltimore. I've forwarded those POCs to my OR in an effort to expedite the process but information remains minimal. The file keeper at MEPS Baltimore refuses to speak to me because she can't verify who I am eventhough I have volunteered to do just that! I'm taking that as an excuse to not have to do anything; laziness runs rampant.

I've spoken to the USCG recruiting staff in LA that I processed through and they can't do anything although they said that if they could they would. To make matters worse, MEPS LA is actually changing physical locations so all the telephones and e-mail are offline...

Take into account that my NRD doesn't do the PRT until after MEPS and that I will have paperwork for LASIK, and the situation gets that more grim.

I'm fighting and doing everything I can. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Has anyone gotten their Final Select yet?

I'm hoping for those of us that have finished everything we can class-up for December!
 
Got MEPS scheduled for next Monday. If that that goes well I should be doing my PRT on Wednesday and then I will begin my FS wait as well.

I wish I was to know I am FS by next week.... I am pushing my OR and Processor! I need to get out there pronto...!
