August 09 Boards

Yeah so after lurking on these boards since January, and being done with my package way back in March, I'm finally in for August boards...thank God.

Figured I'd kick things off since there isn't a thread yet for August and its right around the corner. Anyway here are my stats...

1. SNA BDCP
2. CEC BDCP (Already a Field Select as a result of my interview)
3. NFO BDCP

Duke University
Structural Engineering Major, Architectural Engineering Certificate, History Minor

GPA: 2.8 (Got an F first time around in multivariable calc after spending the night in the ER before the 9 am final and couldnt get it moved, had a 77% going into the final)

-ASTB: 7/7/7/59

-2 Years Varsity Swimming (Ear surgery to get hearing up to par for Military ended swimming early)
-2 Years AFROTC (they suck aka 1.5 years to get med qualified, then 6 months later tell me they dont have any slots for civil engineering and its too late for pilot/electronic warfare)
-3 Years Fraternity, 2 in leadership (historian, VP)
-2 Independent Research Studies
-Bunch of LOR's

That sucks man. You'd think the professor would have made an exception. Not able to take a grade replacement? If all else fails, since you are applying BDCP, that means you could always retake the class to increase the GPA. What year are you?

I think I am in the August boards, being Active Duty its a little harder to tell though.

Applying: SNA

7 years active
AE2(AW/SW)

ASTB: 5/5/5/53

School: 3.78 GPA Saint Leo Univesity Crim justice / Homeland Security.

Interviews: 4 0-5's, 2 0-4's all Tens. Range from OPS O's to XO/CO's of a few E-2 commands. and then the Squadron CO as well.

LORS: 3 0-6 USN, 1 DCAG, 1 CAG, 1 skipper of a big base all former squadron CO's.

Evals: MP/EP/EP

PRT: Good High/ Good High/ Excellent Low (swim swim run)

Extracurriculurs: Lots of volunteer work/coaching.

Special: Not a pilot but been turned E-2's and C-2's for three years now.
I think that covers it. Like i said I only "think" im in on the August board, I do not have a recruiter who can confirm or deny per say.

That sucks man. You'd think the professor would have made an exception. Not able to take a grade replacement? If all else fails, since you are applying BDCP, that means you could always retake the class to increase the GPA. What year are you?

I'm going to be a senior, I retook the class last spring and got a B because it is a grad req, but yeah its noted on my application so hopefully they will take that into consideration. On the bright side, apparently if you get field selected for CEC, the board is just kinda like oh ok have a pro rec...at least thats what my recruiter told me....

Prior AF ~3.5 years (force shaping, didn't finish my four) (and I need the age waiver)
Various LOR's, nothing special, just people that know me well.
Played sports in high school, but not college.
Trying for SNA and SNFO.

Just found out my packet did not make it in time for the July boards so I have been officially placed in for August.

Recs: current senior analyst/supervisor; colleague and prior Intel O (5 years) and; family friend and prior SWO (10 years)

Three years in the US intel community in mobile surveillance and intel analysis. Have held various field leadership and office leadership positions in both roles. Possess a TS/sci clearance as well and have a hand-full of awards from my organization.

No PRT as I was told to only send up the application but I am in excellent shape. Heavy runner and do a lot of PT workouts.

In lieu of being bumped, I am adding additional LORs (another supervisor and prior Army O in combat arms and a colleague who is a prior Marine E and currently an intel analyst). Also requesting an endorsement from my congressman. Couldn't hurt right.

Second round, here we come!

Just be mindful tat it is getting close to the end of July. Adding things to your package now may delay it past August. Would it be better to save those LORs and such for a possible re-apply? Or is it better to put them in and hope it is all squared away in time? No right answer, just a thought.

Good thing to consider.

I can add two LORs pretty quickly and was told by the NRD admin that they could be directly e-mailed to her and uploaded to my packet.

However, the congressional option might be a better reserve incase a reapply is needed.

Good points none-the-less.

Has it happened where additions that are more on the minor side hold up the overall package?

Also, and I tried to get a straight answer, but does anyone know the unofficial cut off date for when applications have to be solidified prior to their being evaluated at the boards? I believe the average is the second or third of each month.

I've always heard that the cutoff is the first of the month. But as there are with all things ... there are most likely exceptions to this.

The real question is "where does it need to be submitted by the cutoff?" Does this mean you have completed your package and it is in the recruiter/processor's hands, it is off in Tennessee, it is fully processed through Tennessee? I'm not sure anyone knows that answer. My guess is that there really isn't a true cutoff date, that it "generally" takes the amount of time between the first of the month and when boards meet to make it through all the stages after you let go of the package.

I know, sorry, no help ... it ended up just being a dialogue with myself ... hah oh well

It took me forever to get my DD Form-368 conditional release signed by BUPERS but finally came through and am submitting for the first time to the board. I have been hacking away at this thing for over 2 years now. Anybody tells someone you can't do something, it makes you want to work so much harder to prove them wrong. Never give up. Good luck to everybody else who's applying. Hope to see everyone in the fleet.

I've always heard that the cutoff is the first of the month.

I think that is what it used to be, my OR told me they just changed it to the 25th of the month before the board. Not sure if that is true or if he just wanted me to get my stuff together early...
