Don’t even try to compare your NROTC team the MARINE CORPS SILENT DRILL TEAM. They blow away any of the other services drill teams out of the water.

Let me just say .... the NROTC's of TODAY ain't the ROT-C's of YESTERDAY. In many, many ways ..... Believe it.

And 'Fish .... yeah, maybe I'm reaching waaaaaaayy out there ..... but we were as good as 8th & I .... not always, of course, maybe we just got "lucky" on any given day .... but we were really good. Many, many hours of practice from "above average" boys. Most guys were atheletes and strong performers or they wouldn't have been there (NROTC back-in-the-day) in the first place. Discipline is not the only standard --- ability has to factor in there, also. I've seen 'em --- 8th & I --- with my own two beady little eyes --- and they are OUTSTANDING .... but so were we. And many of the pix available of the 8 th & I boys show they put on their pants one leg at a time ... just like the rest of us. Maybe those guys are the 7th & I bunch ?? Sorry ....

For any of you who might get your USMC "pride" all ruffled: Marines ??? I think they're GREAT!!! And they are !! The only problem iin the Fleet was we had to keep them flying over the lunch hour or some would forget how to do it:)icon_wink ). I was headed for USMC, Infantry (eyes were not 20/20 then) and was taking Vietnamese for my language --- now where do you think I was heading?? Hint: it wasn't going to be with the "U.S." Marines --- so don't try to sell me the USMC propaganda. I've heard it all before. I have some "feet of clay" stories I could tell --- all USMC variety. You guys can't B.S. a B.S.'er .... Navy or Marines ..... so don't try. :)

I admire Marines ... always have (obviously); always will. The Navy could learn a lot from their junior partner in a lot of areas. But just because they're Marines doesn't mean they're gods (little "g", of course). So don't try to "smoke" an old sea dog ..... I heard it/saw it all when you boys were still wetting the bed.

Psedo-USMC AW :) 's from a Navy guy .....

Shit, I didn't mean giving yourself a right oblique to avoid somebody on the sidewalk.

you guys have given me some good ideas, though...
philly's ready though, so i have to go. (they're no good if you let them cool enough that the grease stops dripping.)

Eight-year-olds, Dude...
Some of the Navy ROTC units still have it A4s...

"Midshipman 3/C Joey Zerra led the squad basic team through an outstanding performance that placed them ninth. Midshipman Hauck performed his routine in individual exhibition and ranked nineteenth overall. Under the command of the Midshipman Fillmon, Color Guard team members Midshipmen Sailors, Corpe, Hauck, and Hellemn executed a precise routine that won them the first place among the sixty-five competing schools. "

This competition did include the Citadel, VMI and the Naval Academy. I'm not one to jump on the Navy bandwagon but they did a wonderful job, and besides, my drill sucks.

I heard that Texas A&M had a killer silent drill team. I'm pretty sure it was them and not the 8th and I at the begining of A Few Good Men. (My 2nd favorite scene in that movie.)

So they dressed A&M's drill team up like Marines instead of getting the real Silent Drill Team from 8th and "I" who does this type of PR all the time? I'd have to see proof to buy that one.

Aggies .... you gotta' love 'em. How about this for "proof":

From the "Fish" webpage: ...... In the movie "A Few Good Men" the Marine Corps Drill Team at the beginning is played by the Fish Drill Team. The Drill Team also performed in the movie "Courage Under Fire"......

... Seems I remember "hearing" that the USMC and Navy were so irritated by director Rob Reiner's negative portrayal of the service(s) that the Navy denied the producers the assistance the beautiful people were originally seeking in making the film ..... so the Hollywood types got the Aggies to sub for the 8th & I Drill Team ....
