Army Drill v. Marine Drill

Get back to your stash job, son, lest we settle this like gentlemen and have a good old-fashioned drill competition.

Chances are, that OCS will be the first and last time you have to lead a platoon at close order drill (save for the very short drill time at TBS). It's designed more to build and test confidence than your actual ability to drill. Trust me... one of the funniest displays of drill is getting a group of officers together and trying to make them drill in step. Worry more about how you carry yourself and your self-confidence. Drill ability comes with time and practice.

Also, if you take DocT's advice and walk around saying ditties to yourself and squaring corners or whatever, take video, I want to laugh at you.

I think if you have Navy anywhere in your member description you shouldn't be able to post on threads concerning drill.:icon_tong

Oh .... PULLLLLEEEEEEEAASE !!!!!

When I was an NROTC Mid ... our Navy "Drill Team" (we even included a couple of Marine option STUDs so as not to hurt anyone's feelings) could have put the boys @ 8th and I to shame. In addition to the mandatory stuff and personnel inspection --- we did 15 minutes worth of "silent" drill, complete with bayonets, etc ... spins, tosses, twirls (and that was just with the cheerleaders !!! ... :) ). Popping rifles stocks, ripple moves, tossing rifles across the ranks --- and NO DROPS, RUNS, or ERRORS !!! I could outdrill and out-manual of arms --- ANY MARINE THEN EXTANT !!! And so could most of the rest of the guys. .... The Marine DI's who were judging/grading us once wondered aloud to our company officer "who is the Midshipman (me) .... is he prior enlisted " ????

Give me a break ..... :)

..... for example: Here's a pix of the USMC "silent" drill team --- we would not have tolerated the sloppy angle of half of the rifles in this shot.

We "won" the West coast NROTC competition two of my four years in school --- against about 10 schools --- and with it bragging and drinking rights. Right. Lots of drinking ..... lots and lots ..... of rights.

Shit, I didn't mean giving yourself a right oblique to avoid somebody on the sidewalk.

I made the bad choice of once saying to the AMOI (GSgt) that I could beat him in sword drill. Well......he grabbed my hand, twisted it around, threw me on to the deck, and then put his knee on my chest hopping up and down. My chest hurt for about a week after that. And this was all done in the hallway (sorry peeway (sp?)) right next to the XO/CO/MOI office (they were not there). We all got a good laugh, except for me, it hurt to laugh.

I had grounds that I could beat him because I won a jrotc sword competition and his grounds was he got a 100% on his DI sword test. Well, as said above, he didnt like that. :)

Good times

btw, i was joking to the gunny, but he didnt care, he had a good reason to take me to the deck.

Sounds like I called down the heavens and I got what was coming to me..."You tell him it's coming, you tell him I'm coming and hell's coming with me you hear, hell's coming with me."

A4: to drill is human to silent drill is devine. I'm sure you guys were very good and there defineitely are some errors in that picture above, but to say you had better discipline than the 8th and I guys, that's pretty bold. I was never stationed at 8th and I, but we went there for an award and I saw those guys' daily routine. I can tell you 100% that unless you did not attend any classes while in NROTC there is no way in hell that you worked more on drill and were more disciplined than those guys. You may have been able to beat them in a contest, possibly, but those guys lives are living discipline hell for the few years they're at 8th and I
