Where do I sign up?
Is it true that you must adhere to polo shirts and khakis during liberty at TBS? Is this dress code for the entire duration? I like to look good out on the town but I would prefer wearing jeans in Georgetown...

I am familiar with the MCO. Every command is a little different and my question pertains to TBS Students. Thanks.

c. Civilian clothes will reflect in style and quality the service "C" uniform. Non-inclusive examples of appropriate civilian attire:
(1) shirt with a collar/blouse,
(2) trousers/slacks with a belt (if applicable), and
(3) socks and shoes.
d. Examples of inappropriate civilian attire:
(1) beach or swim wear,
(2) gym or sweat gear,
(3) tank tops,
(4) short shorts,
(5) ripped or torn clothing,
(6) garments designed as underwear,
(7) clothing with designs of an obscene or suggestive nature, and
(8) shower shoes/flipflops. (ALMAR 123/96)

Polo style shirts in the summer; collared dress shirts in the fall and winter.

He was talking about TBS, not OCS.

To answer the original question, you will be allowed to wear jeans at TBS. This was not the case at TBS when I first arrived, but the policy changed late 2003. You will still have to wear a belt with a collared shirt at all times, but at least you don't have to rock the khakis every time you leave the BOQ. You can generally still pick out TBS Lts in town, but it's not quite as easy as picking out the candidates on liberty.

Tax,

Thanks. One more question... Haircuts? Do you have to sport the high & tight? Or can you have a high or medium reg.

Ya,
you can't get nasty till you're at least in advanced

j/k

so long as you're in regs, you'll be fine. I sported the low reg the whole time and no one ever said a thing. I can't pull off the high and tight w/o looking like an even bigger dork.

i'll second squeeze on the haircut ... the high and tight coupled with the khakis/button up shirt makes me look like the biggest nerd ... i'm all about rockin the medium reg

High and tight makes you look like a Geiger Tiger (i.e., BOOT).

Bald makes you look like a retard.

Nasty makes you look...well, I'll wait until Advanced :D

After three years of smelling like a Ben Gay factory, one year of having a carrier deck on my head, and two years of looking like Kojak, I have spent the past two years with a low-to-medium reg, with no problemas.

Just take a stroll through Jacksonville, Oceanside, Waikiki, or Q-Town on a Sunday, and it will be painfully obvious as to why you need to shed the Brown Field Buzz.

One exception not mentioned - you can't wear jeans into the Hanson Room or the Hawkins Room. If you get caught w/ jeans in the Hawk, buying a round will probably be the least of your worries.

...Yeah, like the fact that you are in the Hawk to begin with! :D

I see people in the Hanson room with jeans on almost everyday. I'm not saying it is permitted, but people do it on a regular basis.

Yeah, I think I saw the TBS XO give an ass chewing to a few Lts who were wearing jeans in the Hanson Room. I guess the later you get into the POI, the nastier you get when it comes to proper civilian attire.

Yeah there are a ton of Lt's running around in jeans where their not supposed to be. I heard about LtCol Craft's ass chewing too; however, it seems the Lts haven't learned anything from it.
