API rumor control

OP, I was one of those Ensigns that started a thread a few months ago when someone did something in A-pool. I felt terribly proud for thinking I had laid the smackdown on people who I thought were wrong. It lasted for a few days, caused quite a brouhaha, then do you know what happened?

Everyone forgot about it. And nothing in A-pool changed at all.

Everyone will forget about this too. And A-pool will not change at all.

There isn't much difference you can make in A-pool to those douches who don't want to hold their shit together while they wait. They're going to get trashed and break things or people, or both, or end up in jail or outside the liberty zone or some such nonsense. Not a thing you say here or at muster will change them. A-pool is fun, and some people abuse that fun, so it becomes unfun for a while, like a big pendulum. That's all there is to it. The douches get weeded out on account of their douchebaggery, and the ones who actually want to be there and won't risk it by being stupid will eventually get to API, then continue the training pipeline.

I'd advise you, as one who has very recently BTDT, to relax. Idiots happen. Just keep clear of 'em.

Unfortunately I think that my point has been lost somewhere in the minutia here.

Here's how it is. API/NASC is the gateway to Naval Aviation. Everyone who is there JUST GOT into the Navy. Therefore, you will have the best of the best, along with the dregs. By the time you get to the fleet, the retards (at least a good many of them) have fucked up and been kicked out or sent elsewhere by then. A few bad apples always make it through but the above is mostly true. Plus the fact everyone is a few years older, a few years on their own to get the partying done and a couple ranks higher with more responsibilities.

Unfortunately that means that for the good folks in API, you're going to pay for the dregs' mistakes, since they are in the process of, or haven't yet been, kicked out/sent elsewhere.

And another thing about "tipsy taxi" or 411 cards. It IS NOT a valid excuse to use it because it's there, or since you "spent all of your money on alcohol". So don't go blow 200 bucks at the bar and use your freeby card to get home. WRONG. If you do that, and something happens, you will get hammered for that on top of whatever else you got in trouble for that warranted investigation. Those cards are for use ONLY when you are stranded without a ride and BROKE. As in, no more CC/Debit cards and no cash. So don't "plan" on going downtown, getting hammered and using your card to get home. DUMB.

I've been in a while and I know what your talking about. You're not shining any light on anything I'm not familiar with or seen, but I think that is good for some to read.

Good point on the tipsy taxi card. I didn't mention that and it was well put.

You know what I mean though. Virtually all Officers at NASC have JUST joined the Navy Officer Corps (priors too!) and virtually all Enlisted have just joined the Navy. Priors are still feeling their way around being an Officer, despite time in service and new Officers are still barely-out-of-college-knuckleheads.

The tipsy taxi thing was something I learned (but completely logical) when I heard about a mast of some JE who misused it, and despite using it, got a DUI. Learn from others...

That's how it goes in these threads. You'll never get your original point back into discussion, not ever.

I've seen that in every thread I've read on this site. Not just to the ones I've contributed to, but also to the ones viewed.

Ever played the game "telephone" as a kid? I did, and I always screwed up the message on purpose. Is AW a forum for recovering "telephone" players? I dunno. Wait, reviewing some unrelated threads.... So I'm feeding the flames now.

I think this thread is dead.

It seems like there's plenty of "gouging-up" going on within each wave of new SNAs reporting to NASP, but not much inter-wave gouging-up going on. Here's an idea: have each moronic-incident offender write up what they did HAZREP/SIR-style with higher management attaching their comments and a summary of the consequences experienced by the offender and his/her peers. Then make the binder of these "DUMB-REPs" required reading for all new NASC reportees.
They say NATOPS is written in blood? Well, the DUMB-REP binder will be written in black shoe polish.

They should actually go with this idea. Since they have plenty of free time it wouldn't hurt for them to start off reading how everyone else fucked it up. Maybe a few of them wouldn't go and shoot birds thinking its fun that way...

Then again the stupid ones would probably just go and get even more creative...

Half of these incidents would easily go away if the wingman/shipmates who left a guy out to his own demise were held accountable instead of just the alcohol drinking bafoon. That guy is already impaired and can no longer make make good decision that night.

Wrong...you are accountable for your own actions. How far back do you make someone responsible for you? The guy who should have invited you to their BBQ, the random SNA who doesn't know you from Adam who saw you pissing on the barstool? And apparently that means everyone needs an accountabilibuddy to stay sober with them to be accountable for your fuckup...

Before you grabbed that first PBR you were responsible for your actions, not the guy on your left or right...

Disagree. Be responsible for your own actions. Your buddies shouldn't be held responsible if you decide to drink an 18-pack at a party and drive your car through a house. Should your buddies pick up the slack and unfuck you? You bet. Should they be treated as buddyfuckers and shunned if they don't? Absolutely. But to make it mandatory? Come on, we're officers here. Enough babysitting.

Pickle,

Liberty is a team sport. Always has been, always will be. If you are not the one getting a little bit sideways while out drunk on liberty, then you will be the next time. I have been escorted out of bars by my friends, and I knew when they were doing it that they were doing the right thing. I have done the exact same thing for the same guys. None of us ever got arrested (in this country anyway, and Greek jails could not hold us), and nobody ever got their ass stomped.

Not only is team liberty smart, but it should build JOPA bonds and help your wardroom come together.

Beve,
I totally agree...don't be the Blue Falcon. I've had my ass saved as an E and an O from doing stupid shit...and we should bethere in a herd. But if my dumb ass takes a swing at a bouncer, or gets that DUI, I should not expect to see you standing next to me because that hot piece of ass you were dancing with all night was dumb enough to take you home...

Look, that hot piece of ass was not drunk at all, and she made the best decision of her life.

You have hit on an important note. If your wingman breaks formation to get laid (especially if you failed to jump on a grenade), you have to RTB single ship. It's just the way it goes.

The best day of my life, getting commissioned and reporting to A-pool.

The next best day was the day I checked out. Great vacation but damn I don't miss that sh*t!

I agree to SOME degree but it can go WAAY beyond that. Like my buddy who got picked up by the cops as we were literally DRAGGING him out of a Pensacola establishment. Sometimes it's just HIS fault and you did all you could.

The main point I was trying to get across was that we do alot of preaching to the new SNAs about not letting alcohol and party fuck everything away, but perhaps there needs to be a bit more educating on the importance of unfucking your buddy who has already gone stupid and made the mistake and can no longer control his actions. New guys out of the comissioning souces arent necessarily buddy system knowledgable when it comes to events outside the daily grind. Its all part of mentoring new officers. Many of the incindents that I have sat through briefs and AOMs for in flight school could have been easily prevented if their buddies would have kept them from getting behind the wheel or ensured they got home safely.

I would much rather "babysit" a drunk friend of mine and inconvenience myself instead of attending his funeral the next day.
