No, but they claim they will reduce your interest rate down to 4% under SCRA if they deem you eligible. Bottom line, ask and they'll review your file. The lady on the phone made it sound like they'll help you out if they can justify it. 1-877-469-0110

I called and managed to get mine reduced to 4%. They didn't credit me for the yearly fee but we'll see if they charge me again come January...

Also for current hot deals, Amex is running a 70,000 point bonus on the Delta Platinum through November 8th.
 
The Economist in me and the CFS in me just want to make it clear to everyone: if you're using a rewards card but are carrying any balance month to month, you're losing. Don't get credit cards unless you can pay it off in full every month with little exception.
 
Looks like the Limitless card is only available to Louisiana residents now, so I missed my opportunity there.

Also for those who have the Blue Cash Preferred card, check your statements to make sure the grocery store or whatever place you expect to give you the 6% cash back is actually doing so.

My hometown Hannaford did not, so I looked for a list of eligible places online. Now I go to Winn-Dixie and buy a $500 Visa gift card every month, which is still about 5% back after you take the activation fee out (already checked my statement to confirm they'll still give the 6%). The gift card helps me reel in discretionary spending while I pay off my credit card, and it's effectively 5% cash back on everything. Plus you don't have to worry as much about credit card skimmers. The downside is that it's basically a debit card, so if you lose it or it gets stolen you're almost certainly SOL, to the tune of up to $500. Technique only.

Does that still work for the Platinum? I checked the fine print and it said that the $200 credit can't be used for gift cards. (Not sure if you're talking about another card)

Nope, they carry over. I never used a single point for about five years until I used them to buy a washer and dryer a month ago.

The AMEX platinum is awesome, but you should NOT be using it to actually buy anything except airplane tickets (5x points). Get the 50,000 point sign on bonus, use the lounges, enjoy status at Hertz/Hilton/Starwood, smile that they reimburse the annual fee for military, use the $200 per year airline credit, use the Uber credit, but don't use it as your daily spender at only 1 point per $1. Get the Chase sapphire reserve (3x points on restaurants) and other cards like that mentioned earlier in this thread with great deals on gas and groceries and use each card for what it is best at.
 
Pourts is spot on with the 5x points on airfare. Just be aware AMEX doesn't provide trip delay insurance like the Chase Sapphire Preferred/Reserve does. Those Chase cards provide trip delay (12 hours or an overnight stay) insurance free of charge as long as you use the card to pay for the airfare (or taxes on an award ticket). This benefit will pay up to $500 for each purchased ticket for expenses like meals and lodging. This applies no matter what the reason, so when the last flight of the night gets cancelled for weather and the airline won't pay for a hotel, you can stay wherever and submit your expenses for reimbursement.

Have you used that? The one time I tried to use Chase for extended warranty protection I got pushed to whatever garbage contractor they use. My Amex experiences with customer service have been excellent, to the point I’ll probably keep the Platinum after I leave AD.

I'm with you there, particularly if whatever post-Navy job I have requires travel. Incidentally, does Amex waive the fee for reservists as well as AD? If so, it's an even better deal...

I used the Centurion louge at Sea-Tac airport a couple of days ago. Really made my 4 hour layover go by fast. :cool:

I don't have any experience, but I'm in the same boat. With the travel credits and uber bennies, I'm seriously considering keeping the thing even after active. I think as a reservist, so long as you can show them any orders you were on during that calendar year, they'll refund the annual fee.
