AMDO Package

Hello everyone! I'm putting in a package soon for AMDO and am just wondering if I would be considered competitive. I just scored a 51 on my OAR and maintained a 3.6 GPA with a BS in Technical Studies. I also am going to have a TIS waiver due to me hitting my ten year mark this upcoming January. Thank you in advance!

First and foremost, welcome to the forum. Second, please take the time to browse around the forums, particularly there's AMDO board forums where you can see how you stack against the others.

Finally, any sort of follow on discussion or questions you may have, use the search feature. Odds are it's been asked and answered in detail. Good luck.

Thank you for the tip. I'll be sure to browse around!

I am in the process as well, submitting for the board in August. I would say these are competitive. Getting quality LORs and writing a good motivational statement may be what sets you apart. However, I do hear from browsing around, that it can be more difficult to get accepted with over 8 years. At least doesn't make it easier...but it does happen.

I was told by my recruiter yesterday I didn’t get selected, and that about 12/60 made it. This seemed really early…

I’ll try again in spring and explore other specialties in the meantime

Board dates are merely placeholders and can meet after, or what appears to be the case, before the listed board date.

Do you have aviation maintenance experience?

I have a 8 year experience in semiconductor manufacturing as an equipment engineer - basically managing maintenance schedules, continuous improvement projects and 3 years in systems engineering. I did spend a fair time in the field turning wrenches and doing project management.

For the AMDO, do they only care about direct experience in aviation maintenance?
I don't know if it would even be comparable to military aircraft, but I did have a lot of hands on experience on high-tech machinery that easily costs over $100M, training and leading technicians in the field.
Searching through the threads over 10+ years ago indeed suggest "some sort of maintenance/engineering background" does help although rare.

I reached out to some other folks on other communities/forums who've got selected without much direct experience in aviation and was just curious.

I gave a shot for IWC as I thought it was the most "ideal" route I could take and my OR was extremely supportive on applying. But I'm trying to prepare for possible plan Bs while I have downtime.

Assuming you have some sort of STEM degree and a great GPA, I would strongly encourage IWC.

Yeah I’m waiting for the board results.

I do have a foreign undergrad degree in engineering (GPA converted by approved NACES services), 60+ STEM credits from a state university in the US, a masters degree in Computer Science from a top state school. But my Navy GPA is a meh — 3.23. My OR says my OAR score of 64 might be a bit helpful to overcome the lowish GPA.

If I’m lucky to get a pro rec Y, my next hurdle would be my background (Immigrated 8 years ago, newly naturalized citizen. Parents/spouse all green card holders, foreign in laws — all from a strong US ally country) for TS/SCI.

My OR simply told me as long as I’m not a dual citizen then I should be good. However, once I later dug into information I could gather from the internet, a lot of people with a similar background seemed to have trouble in the PSSQ.

I read through the recruiting manuals for enlisted/officers available from the public eToolBox and it seems like only the enlisted folks had very clear and explicit directions concerning the PSSQ. The officer version was relatively vague in terms of clearances.
If I don’t get picked, I’m suspecting I could get a DNR.

Also as I’m soon hitting 36, I’m getting concerned that my choices are limited and I might age out from all options.

I was contacted by a DSCA contractor around 2 months ago for my T3 interview. I did my best to reveal everything I found pertinent, but IDK how much it would be factored into the suitability screening.
