Heard about numbers? How many they're looking for?

I heard a rumor that this board is going to pick up AD Navy applicants? True? Would suck because I'm USAF....

I am not sure about the AD Navy applicants. In the past boards, yes most are these applicants. Like most branches they all try to promote from within. The community managers e mail said quotas are not yet established, but he anticipates as many as 10-15. That is a very high number and who knows it could drop lower than this. We still have 8 months to go so a lot can change...

with the exception of a couple small designators (AMDO and PAO) that isn't true, we pulled the statistics a few years ago and over time the advantage goes to the civilian applicant, there are some reasons for this I would say number one is bad mentoring given to fleet personnel.

Is this board still active and happening?
Yep, here's the solicitation notice:

This announcement solicits applications for Officer Candidate School (OCS) leading to a commission as an Active Duty Ensign in the Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer designator (1520). Apply through your Command Career Counselor or local Navy Officer Recruiter. Applications are now being accepted by Commander, Navy Recruiting Command (CNRC). Deadline for applications is 22 January 2016, but interested candidates are strongly encouraged to submit packages NLT 15 January 2016 to allow for detailed processing.

APPLYING FOR OCS

Refer to OPNAV Instruction 1420.1B; Enlisted to Officer Commissioning Programs

NOTE: The best advice for applicants is to seek AMDO mentorship. The more senior AMDO the better, but talk with as many as possible. Every AMDO has helpful information to share.

Active/reserve enlisted personnel and eligible civilians are encouraged to apply. The community selects applicants whose performance indicates “best and fully qualified” with emphasis on potential and career motivation (20 years or more of commissioned service).

See Program Authorization (PA) 107 dated December 2013. Applicants must possess a baccalaureate degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university, preferably in math, engineering, technical, business, or physical science. Proven academic performance in other disciplines will be considered. Minimum OAR is 40 (not waiverable), and the AQR is not required. Applicants must meet rigorous physical readiness standards for OCS. Finally, applicants must not have passed their 35th birthday at the time of commissioning.

Again, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit packages by 15 January 2016 to Commander Navy Recruiting Command (CNRC). A panel of senior AMDOs will review applications and forward recommendations to CNRC. The number of quotas is TBD. Applicants will be advised of selection status via the Recruiter and/or the Commanding Officer. FY16 selectees will enter the 13-week OCS course at Newport, RI, for graduation and commissioning before September 30, 2016.

OFFICER CANDIDATE SCHOOL

OCS is located at Newport, RI. The OCS course was designed by Navy officers and educators to give students a basic working knowledge of the high-tech Navy establishment afloat and ashore. It prepares students to assume responsibilities as Navy Officers by pushing them to work to their full potential. OCS is demanding, both physically and mentally, and only those with a strong desire to become Navy Officers will successfully graduate. Upon completion, future AMDOs are commissioned as Ensigns with a 4-year obligation from date of appointment.

Visit the Officer Training Command website at http://www.ocs.navy.mil for more information.

AMDO COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

AMDOs are maintenance, logistics and acquisition professionals with formal technical and managerial education. They use extensive Fleet experience to provide leadership at all levels of the integrated logistics chain and in general operational support of Naval Aviation. No other field mirrors the AMDO's education, Fleet experience, and knowledge of integrated logistics.

What we do:

- Provide full-time professional management of organizational (squadron), intermediate (repair facility) and depot level (industrial facility) maintenance organizations.

- Influence emerging aviation weapon system designs to reduce, simplify, or eliminate the requirement for maintenance actions.

- Reconcile long-range readiness objectives with projected resource levels, and establish Naval Aviation Maintenance Policy to ensure objectives are met.

AMDOs receive initial training at the Aviation Maintenance Officer (AMO) School in Milton, FL. The course provides technical information and knowledge of managerial responsibilities required to perform in an entry-level aircraft maintenance manager position. It encompasses the entire spectrum of Naval Aviation Maintenance management with emphasis on maintenance activities, including interface with the supply system and other related activities. Students learn:

- Naval aviation maintenance management and processes;

- Operational readiness organization, including a mock maintenance laboratory;

- Administration, correspondence, manpower management and maintenance training;

- Material management and the Navy supply system;

- Support equipment asset management and maintenance data systems;

- Forms and reports;

- Flight deck and general safety, NAVOSH and hazardous materials;

- Deployment/detachment operations

- Aircraft weight and balance

Initial assignments could be a Fleet squadron, an Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (afloat), or a Fleet Readiness Center ashore. Locations are worldwide.

According to the community overview, having a Aviation Logistic background with qualifications like plane handler, different Work center quals, plus a safe for flight would be a great candidate for AMDO.

I like to keep things lite when they are far out of my control. Coping mechanism.

But seriously, I'm looking forward to submitting for this board.

Just starting the Officer process. I'm schedule to take my OAR September 3rd. What study guides and books will best prep me for this test?

I have the Officer Candidate Test for Dummies to freshen up my math. What other study material/websites should I use?

Also, what ALL do I need in my package? My recruiter doesn't seem too educated on how the process works which is worrying me.

This is what is required I believe:
-tech degree w/GPA (3.4+ competitive )
-Physical
-interviews with AD AMDO'S
-LOR's from AD officers O-5 or above
-personal acceptance letter
-secret clearance eligible
-pass OAR (50+ competitive )
-submit before Jan. 21 2016

If there is anything else or I missed something or am wrong, please correct me. Like I mentioned, I'm just starting this process so all the help is greatly appreciated.

You said"AQR is not required"? I already took my OAR and thought I needed to retake the whole ASTB. I thought the Aviation portion of the ASTB was required, not only the OAR portion. I hope you're correct.

Does anyone know if all 6 portions of the ASTB is required for AMDO? Or is the OAR portion(i.e. math, reading, mechanical) the only portion required? I have already taken my OAR and don't want to re-take the whole thing if I don't have to. Thanks in advance.

Just OAR, there was a misprint many years ago and ever since then people have been thinking you need the AQR
