All new Fraternization Policy

The Chief

A new OPNAVINSTRUCTION, 5370.2C revamps the Navy's fraternization policy. This new policy, inter alia, clarifies what relationships are appropriate for Sailors, given that today’s current operations and IA assignments have made it commonplace for Sailors to serve side by side with the U.S. Army and Air Force, multi-national partners in operations throughout the world.

(Think the multi-national partners part as added after some crewmembers from USS Stennis and embarked airwing spent a couple of weeks on the French nuclear aircraft powered carrier, FS Charles de Gaulle while in the Arabian Sea. Oh, I was just kidding about that part.:eek:)

On the somber side, serious issues, serious business. Recommended read.:)

Did people really need an new instruction to tell them that it's not OK to bang the hot French enlisted chick? :D

What the hell could have possibly changed? Somebody have the Cliff's Notes version or maybe a Powerpoint brief. Brett, why don't you take that FORAC and get back to us.

Basically, it extends the "no O on E action" policy across US and international services.

if you want the small updates most are in 4b:

b. "Fraternization" is the term traditionally used to
identify personal relationships which contravene the customary
bounds of acceptable senior-subordinate relationships. Although
it has most conunonly been applied to officer-enlisted
relationships, fraternization also includes improper
relationships and social interaction between officer members as
well as between enlisted members, regardless of the service
affiliation of the other officer or enlisted member, including
members of foreign military services.

And 6d:

d. Unduly familiar relationships may exist with individuals
outside one's direct chain of command, including relationships
with members of other branches of the U.S. Armed Forces or with
members of foreign military services. By long-standing custom
and tradition, Chief Petty Officers (E-7 to E-9) are separate and
distinct leaders within their assigned command. Chief Petty
Officers provide leadership not just within their direct chain of
command, but for the entire unit. The prohibition of paragraph
5b is based on this unique leadership responsibility. While the
existence of a direct senior-subordinate supervisory relationship
is not a prerequisite for a relationship between juniors and
seniors to constitute fraternization, the fact that individuals
are in the same chain of command increases the likelihood that an
unduly familiar relationship between senior and junior officers,
or between senior and junior enlisted members will result in
prejudice to good order and discipline or discredit to the naval
service.

The policies across US and international services!

go blue...
Is it unacceptable for someone to pursue a relationship with a 1/C Mid when they are a 3/C, with that relationship possibly extending past commissioning for the 1/C? The only thing I know is an OC recommended otherwise. This being for NROTC and not the Academy.
