So why don't the police do a little investigation and follow up on this kind of thing? Instead, they take someone's word and warrants get issued and then it is up to person falsely accused to figure it all out.
Florida sucks, indeed. Since moving to Jacksonville six years ago, my friends and I have been the victims of multiple crimes:
- My CD player was stolen out of my car. Whoever did it opened the toolbox I had in the passenger seat and
left the tool he used to bust into my car in my toolbox. They made no attempt to find who did it, even when the tool was right there in front of them.
- Someone walked into my friend's house while he was asleep, and his girlfriend and another girl were in the bathroom changing or something. This person stole the wallet out of the girl's purse and proceeded to use her credit card to make purchases with it, including buying a sandwich right across from where she worked. He used information from her wallet to basically stalk her and make purchases near where she was going to be, to spook her. Cops did nothing.
- A car was stolen from the same friend's driveway. It was found months later, wrecked. Cops did not or could not find whoever did it.
- My roommate and now-ex girlfriend were almost hit and killed by a hit-and-run driver in a large, white six-wheeler box truck going at least 80mph down a residential street in Riverside. The truck had already charged through a big street sign, one of those wires that holds up telephone poles (breaking power lines and blacking out the neighborhood,) and a heavy, wrought-iron fence (twice, it broke down on the way in and again on the way out.) It also hit my roommate's two-week old car, tearing down the side of it and ripping off the sideview mirror entirely. They never found the truck or the driver. Anyone in Jax can still see the holes in the fence that the truck drove through in the Five Points area.
- I was backed into in the parking lot where I worked, leaving a dent in my trunk. The trashy woman who did it just lied to the Community Service Officer, saying she didn't do it and that the dent had been there before. Her car had no damage, since she hit me with the metal bracket that holds tires onto the back of SUV's. Despite the fact that the dent on my car lined up perfectly with the spare tire bracket that she backed into me with, the dumbass said that since there were no witnesses he wrote it up as a "no fault," so my insurance had to cover it. I can't afford to pay the deductible, so the dent is still there. All the guy had to do was use two brain cells to see what really happened, but he didn't care.
- While I was at OCS, my now-ex roommate broke into my room and used my checkbook to subscribe to two gay porn sites, which deducted money from my account and caused overdrafts, totaling something like $600 in loss. I went to the bank to get my losses covered, and the woman was like, "Well, you're military, you should know you need to take everything with you when you go somewhere." To Marine OCS? Are you fuc&ing kidding me?
I used what computer skills I have to find out the IP address where the action took place, the guy's name, workplace, address, and so on, essentially doing all the detective work and serving the guy up to
the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on a silver platter. They did nothing, and I assume the slimeball is still out there wanking it to whatever it was he paid for with my money.
- My roommate, who manages a video game store, was held up at gunpoint and robbed. This happened after the store had been broken in to after hours about once a week for the last two months, with my roommate repeatedly pleading to corporate for added security measures and them doing nothing. The thieves (who didn't bother to use ski masks or anything) were never found.
So, I've seen all of this stuff since I moved here, and that's just personal experience. Thankfully, nobody was hurt or anything. But, you know how many people from the above crimes were caught and brought to justice for their actions?
Zero.
Bottom line:
The police don't investigate jacksh!t. If, God help you, you are the victim of a crime here, you can fully expect to go through more run-arounds than you knew existed, and pay money you don't have to, while whoever did the crime lives better at your expense. This is in addition to the loss of security you feel by being a victim, which is a horrible feeling.
Sorry about the tirade, but I did have a point. It fuc&ing pisses me off that you've got warrants out for your arrest, and God knows what else,
when you didn't do anything, and criminals basically get a free pass to do whatever they want.
Meanwhile, JSO keeps up that pointless speed trap on Southside under the JTB overpass. Jax residents know the one. I've lived here six years, on Southisde, and
never once seen an auto collision there. Maybe they should take those six police cars they use in the pointless speed trap and go prevent some real crimes? Just an idea.
