1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share my experience for anyone starting the process and looking for a realistic timeline.

Around June of last year I decided to fully commit to becoming an SNA. I studied hard for the ASTB for about two months and scored a 6/8/7. Since I knew ISEL was getting more competitive, I decided to retake it. After another month of studying, I somehow scored the exact same thing 6/8/7. Knowing I had one last attempt I really locked in a month later I took it for the third time and ended up with a 9/9/9. I submitted my package in early December with no waivers and a 3.27 GPA thinking I would get my date shortly after that.

Unfortunately, my recruiter accidentally filed the wrong paperwork, so my package got kicked back and had to be resubmitted. It was finally received on February 25.

Overall, it’s been a much longer journey than I expected, but that’s just how the process goes sometimes, and I still havent heard anything yet. I don’t want this to discourage anyone. I just wanted to share my experience so people have a more realistic idea of the timeline. Of course, everyone’s situation is different. I’ve talked to a couple of guys who submitted around the same time I did, and they already have OCS dates.

Stick with it and keep pushing! If anyone has any questions feel free to dm me, I am eager to help!

If you haven’t yet, check out the June OCS SNA/NFO thread! I expect you’ll hear back soon. Congratulations!

Good afternoon everyone,

Just looking for some advice on studying for the ASTB-E. I took it back in 2023, before heading to OCS in 2024, and got a 41 4/6/6. I've applied to USCG Flight School 5 times with that score, and this fall will be my 6th and 7th application and I'll be 28 this summer. With all that said, obviously this is a goal of mine and I'm trying to lock in these next couple months to significantly improve my score before I take it end of July.

The questions I have are:

Has the test drastically changed since 2023?
Best apps/sims to study/practice?
Overall advice on what subjects to study? (Math is my weak point)

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated! I will be searching this forum to see what worked well for others.

Appreciate everyone's help and time!

There hasn't been a new version of the ASTB put out in many years, I was told in the past they do add questions they are considering adding to future versions, however I am not sure accurate that info actually was.

Checkout my profile for the guides I used to get ISEL for SNA.

One major difference between 2023 and now is it seems the terrain identification portion of the ASTB isn’t administered anymore
